Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, have been denied their request to keep a 2023 settlement with Ray J secret, according to TMZ. Court documents show a Los Angeles Superior Court judge rejected their plea to seal the deal and other related records.

The judge decided that Kim and Kris did not provide enough proof that making the documents public would harm them.

The legal battle started in October 2025 when Kim and Kris sued Ray J, claiming he defamed them by saying federal authorities were investigating the mother-daughter pair. The Kardashians denied those claims. Ray J then countersued, arguing that they broke a secret agreement from 2023 about the infamous sex tape.

Ray J says he was paid $6 million to keep the tape private forever. He claims Kim and Kris violated the deal by talking about it on an episode of their Hulu show.

Lawyers for Kim and Kris asked the court to keep the agreement and other documents confidential. They argued, “The agreement resolved highly sensitive matters that the parties explicitly agreed to keep confidential in order to protect their families from public disclosure and respect these sensitive matters.”

Ray J opposed this request, and the judge sided with him, ordering Kim and Kris to submit unredacted versions of the agreement.

As TMZ previously reported, Ray J claims the deal involved a $6 million payment, though the Kardashian family has not confirmed that figure.

This case shows just how messy disputes over high-profile settlements can get when public figures are involved. Secrets are hard to keep in the spotlight, and this story will likely continue to make headlines. What do you think about the judge’s decision? Share your thoughts in the comments.
