Britney Spears was recently spotted in a potentially hazardous situation just weeks after her high-profile legal troubles began. The pop icon was seen at a California gas station on Wednesday afternoon, where she appeared to be smoking a cigarette while seated in a luxury SUV.

In images captured at the scene, the 44-year-old sat in the passenger side of a black Jeep-style vehicle with her feet resting on the dashboard as a companion handled the refueling process. Witnesses noted that the vehicle’s window was partially open, allowing smoke to billow out toward the nearby fuel pumps.

This behavior directly conflicts with strict California safety regulations, which outlaw smoking in areas where flammable liquids are being dispensed due to the immense risk of fire or explosion. Most local laws mandate a twenty-five-foot smoke-free perimeter around gas tanks, and such violations generally result in official citations and monetary penalties.

This public outing marks only the second time Spears has been seen since her arrest for driving under the influence in early March. Prior to this, she was photographed in a more low-key setting in Malibu, where she was seen waiting in line at a local coffee shop.

These appearances come during a turbulent period for the singer, who is currently awaiting a scheduled court date on May 4 at the Ventura County Superior Court. The recent DUI incident occurred in Thousand Oaks after multiple reports were made to the California Highway Patrol regarding erratic driving.

Following the arrest, a representative for the star described the event as an inexcusable mistake and stated that she was focused on taking the necessary steps to comply with the law. While her legal team prepares for the upcoming hearing, her inner circle has reportedly expressed hope that she will use this time to prioritize her well-being and seek professional support.

Despite these personal hurdles, Spears has several major career developments on the horizon for the year and beyond. Universal Pictures is currently in the early stages of developing a high-budget film based on her best-selling memoir, The Woman in Me.

The project has attached Wicked director Jon M. Chu to lead the production, with James Platt serving as a producer. While casting for the role of the pop star has not yet begun, the film is expected to be one of the most anticipated music biopics of the decade.

Additionally, Spears made headlines after reportedly selling a significant portion of her music publishing rights in a deal valued at approximately $200 million.

This financial move has sparked widespread discussion about her future in the music industry, as fans wait to see if she will release any new material to accompany the upcoming film project. For now, she appears to be focusing on family, recently sharing a rare social media update featuring her son, Jayden James.
