Kate Beckinsale has sparked a heated discussion online after claiming she was dropped by her longtime agent for showing support for a ceasefire in Gaza. The 52-year-old actress shared these allegations in a now-deleted comment on Instagram under a post by fellow actor Mark Ruffalo.

Beckinsale suggested that a double standard exists in the film industry, questioning why she was let go while male colleagues like Ruffalo seemingly faced no such professional pushback. In her remarks, which were captured before being removed, the Underworld star noted that her termination came abruptly just after the SAG-AFTRA strike ended in late 2023.

She pointed out that her agent, with whom she had a twelve-year friendship, fired her in a brief two-sentence message. Beckinsale expressed frustration over what she perceived as an imbalance of consequences, writing, “I guess having a p***s in Hollywood really counts for a lot because you’ve not been fired by the same agent that I had.”

The actress also revealed that she had reached out to Ruffalo privately months ago to discuss the situation, but he reportedly never replied. She mentioned that while she supports his advocacy work, his lack of communication highlighted a broader issue of gender-based privilege among even the most well-meaning men in the business.

“I DMdyou about this months ago but you ignored me,” she stated directly in the comments. Despite the callout, she later clarified that she didn’t necessarily blame Ruffalo himself, but was simply pointing out a recurring pattern she observed.

The timing of this professional fallout was particularly devastating as it coincided with a period of profound personal loss for Beckinsale. She has been open about her grief following the 2024 death of her stepfather, Roy Battersby, and the passing of her mother, Judy Loe, in July 2025.

The star explained that she was acting as a full-time carer for both parents during their final illnesses while simultaneously managing her own health struggles. “I was dealing with the fact that on top of my mother having been told she had six weeks to live with brain cancer… the day before my stepfather had had a catastrophic stroke,” she shared when describing her emotional state.

Beckinsale has continued to focus on her recovery and various creative ventures following these difficult years. While fans have been clamoring for a return to her most famous role as Selene, any official news regarding a sixth Underworld film remains speculative.

However, she has several independent projects in the works and remains a prominent figure on social media, where she frequently advocates for transparency regarding mental health and industry ethics.

Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo is entering a very busy production cycle. He is expected to reprise his role as Bruce Banner in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He also stars in the crime thriller Crime 101 alongside Chris Hemsworth.

As for the agency dispute, representatives for the various parties have not yet offered a formal public response to Beckinsale’s recent claims.
