Nicole Kidman, 58, and Sandra Bullock, 61, Turn Heads While Teasing ‘Practical Magic 2’ at Cinemacon
CinemaCon became the stage for a bewitching reunion as Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman stepped through a magical doorway to announce the arrival of Practical Magic 2. The duo, appearing together in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, celebrated the legacy of their 1998 cult classic with a series of nods to their shared history.
In a particularly clever moment, the pair recreated Kidman’s famous theater advertisement, with Bullock asking why they had gathered, prompting Kidman to deliver the familiar line: “We come to this place for magic.”

The presentation provided a first glimpse at the sequel, which picks up decades after the original spell was cast. Fans were treated to a teaser that featured the Owens family home—painstakingly rebuilt as a functional set—and introduced Sally’s grown daughters, played by Joey King and Maisie Williams.
“Midnight margaritas, jumping off the roof, and also having our past catching up with us,” Kidman teased while discussing the film’s plot. She noted that the story explores the weight of destiny and family bonds, promising an experience that captures the whimsical yet dark energy of the first film.
The teaser footage reportedly balanced humor with the family’s signature macabre streak. In one scene, Bullock’s character, Sally, somberly reminds a new character played by Lee Pace that everyone they love eventually perishes.
Kidman’s Gillian quickly adds her own dry wit to the exchange, noting, “A really horrible death… It’s not great for the Tinder bio.” Bullock described the experience of returning to the roles as an emotional homecoming, remarking that the set truly “felt like we came back to a home that we once lived in.”
While fans wait for the film’s release on September 11, both actresses are managing incredibly active slates in both film and television. Kidman has recently received acclaim for her role as Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta in the Prime Video series Scarpetta, which also features Jamie Lee Curtis.
The show, which premiered its first season earlier this year, has already begun production on a second installment. Kidman is also slated to appear in the thriller Discretion and the psychological drama Margo’s Got Money Troubles alongside Elle Fanning.
Sandra Bullock has similarly remained a powerhouse in the industry, appearing in the redemption drama The Unforgivable. Outside of her work on the Practical Magic sequel, she has been linked to a variety of upcoming projects that signal a major return to the spotlight after a brief professional hiatus.
With Susanne Bier directing the Owens sisters’ return and a cast that includes returning legends Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing, the film is poised to be one of the most anticipated releases of the autumn season.
