Tom Cruise has been revealed in a very different look for his new movie “Digger,” according to details shared at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas.

The film is directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, and it shows Cruise in a role far from his usual action characters. In the teaser shown at CinemaCon, Cruise appears as an older man named Digger Rockwell. He is seen with white hair, visible wrinkles, and heavy makeup used to change his appearance.

Director Iñárritu was also at the event with Cruise. He said the transformation surprised even him. He told the audience, “Watching Tom Cruise becoming Digger Rockwell, I was not prepared for that.”

The movie itself is a comedy, but it has a dark and unusual tone. Digger Rockwell is shown as a difficult and angry man who mostly connects with his elderly cat. He also runs a large company involved in drilling, which creates a serious environmental problem that becomes central to the story.

Iñárritu said the role is one of the hardest things Cruise has done. He explained that while Cruise is known for doing dangerous stunts in action films, this performance required a different kind of challenge. He described it as a major acting test for the star.

Cruise also spoke about the film during the event. He said, “is wild, it’s funny, and I can’t wait for you all to see it.” He also shared a message on social media after CinemaCon, saying he enjoyed the event and was excited for people to see the movie when it is released.

The teaser also included actor John Goodman, who plays the President of the United States. In the scenes shown, his character asks Digger to fix the environmental crisis caused by the company’s actions. This leads Digger to take on the problem himself in an unusual and physical way.

The movie has been in development for several years, with Cruise and Iñárritu working together for a long time before filming began. The project was first mentioned in earlier reports under a working title before being confirmed as “Digger.”

The film is scheduled for release on October 2.

This is a very surprising role for Tom Cruise. Seeing him in a full transformation like this is not something audiences expect from him. It could be interesting to watch him in a more comedic and character-driven story instead of action. The success will depend on how well the comedy works with such a serious-looking character design.
