11 Actors Join the Upcoming Live-Action ‘Gundam’ Movie

Netflix has shared a fresh update about its upcoming live-action Gundam movie, confirming that production is now underway and revealing the main cast. The announcement came directly from Netflix, which also said filming has started in Queensland, Australia.

The project will feature a group of 11 actors, though their exact roles have not been revealed yet. Among the names attached to the film are Sydney Sweeney, Noah Centineo, Jackson White, Shioli Kutsuna, Nonso Anozie, Michael Mando, Javon Walton, Oleksandr Rudynskyi, Ida Brooke, Gemma Chua-Tran, and Jason Isaacs.

Netflix also shared a short teaser message about the story, giving a basic idea of what viewers can expect. “Gundam, the iconic franchise that launched a global phenomenon, is now in production as a live-action film — starring Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo — about rival mech pilots at war across Earth and its space colonies.”

The movie is being developed as a joint project between Legendary Pictures and Bandai Namco Filmworks. Jim Mickle is directing the film and is also involved as a producer alongside Linda Moran under their company Nightshade.

Several of the cast members, including Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo, are also listed as producers. Other producers include Kale Boiter, Ali Mendes, and Enzo Marc. Executive producers include Matthew Jenkins, along with Makoto Asanuma and Naohiro Ogata, both of whom have worked on multiple Gundam projects in the past.

The Gundam series originally began in 1979, created by Yoshiyuki Tomino. The first anime introduced a war between space colonies and Earth, with giant robots called mobile suits playing a central role. Over time, the franchise grew into a major global name with many shows, movies, and spin-offs.

With filming now in progress and a full cast in place, the live-action Gundam film is moving forward as one of Netflix’s major upcoming projects.
