‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Drops a Star Wars Day “Generations” Teaser That Hits Differently With the Movie Just Weeks Away
Disney and Lucasfilm chose to mark Star Wars Day in the most fitting way possible, dropping a brand new promotional teaser for ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ titled “Generations,” arriving just weeks before the film opens in theaters. The clip leans into the emotional bond at the heart of the story, framing Din Djarin and Grogu not just as a warrior and his apprentice, but as a clan that has grown into something far greater together. Anchored by the quiet declaration “We are what they grow beyond,” the teaser carries a weight that suggests this theatrical outing will be hitting all the right notes for longtime fans.
The film follows the fledgling New Republic enlisting legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu as Imperial warlords continue to threaten the galaxy. Pedro Pascal has said the story marks a new chapter after the end of ‘The Mandalorian‘s’ third season, with Djarin now combining his bounty hunter skills with doing what he knows is right by working for the good guys. That shift in allegiance opens the door for a story that feels both grander in scale and more personal than anything the duo has faced on the small screen.

The “Generations” teaser showcases the breadth of the adventure ahead, from toppling Imperial remnant AT-ATs to a gladiator fight where the creatures from Dejarik have been scaled up to terrifying, life-sized proportions, with an impressive Hutt glimpsed in silhouette looming over the chaos. Jeremy Allen White voices Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba the Hutt from the original trilogy, while Sigourney Weaver appears as Colonel Ward, a character who fought in the Rebellion.
Weaver has made no secret of what drew her to the project in the first place. Speaking to GamesRadar+, she said that getting scenes with Grogu was “probably why I did the movie,” adding that he is “a little badass” and that audiences will be surprised by how much he has grown and what he is now capable of. The score is once again being handled by Ludwig Göransson, returning to compose for the franchise, with the soundtrack due for digital release on May 15.
‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ will be the first new Star Wars film to reach theaters since 2019’s ‘The Rise of Skywalker’, making its arrival a significant moment for the franchise as it attempts to prove its theatrical appeal after years of streaming-focused storytelling. On May the 4th itself, IMAX theaters across the globe are screening 25 minutes of footage from the film, a move designed to drive anticipation ahead of the May 22 opening.
Early box office tracking places the film at an $80 million-plus four-day debut over the Memorial Day weekend, which would put it roughly in the range of 2018’s ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and potentially below it.
However, analysts have noted that given the film’s reported $166 million production budget, even a modest opening could still translate to profitability if international numbers and long-term audience legs follow, particularly as the only major family-friendly blockbuster in its release window.
The “Generations” teaser arrives at exactly the right moment to remind audiences why this clan of two was worth following into the dark in the first place.
