‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Is Already Casting Extras, and the Role Categories Hint at an Epic Battleworld

Insider Claims 'Doomsday' and 'Secret Wars' Probably Won't Be Delayed Because of an Internal Protocol

Marvel’s most ambitious project in years is officially beginning to take shape behind the scenes. ‘Avengers: Secret Wars‘, the film set to close out the entire Multiverse Saga and reshape the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has become one of the most anticipated movies ever made. With the Russo Brothers returning to helm the finale and a cast that promises to be the largest in MCU history, the machine is starting to move.

Principal photography on ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ is scheduled to begin in mid-2026, with the film based at Pinewood Studios in England, where ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ was also produced. More recent reports suggest the production start may have shifted to August 2026, with Marvel Studios already working on visual effects and making adjustments to ensure the timeline remains on track. Either way, the gears are clearly turning.

A casting call posted to allcasting has now confirmed that ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ is actively building its background roster. The listing is seeking background and featured performers across a wide range of categories, including Military, Civilians, Scientists, Fighters, Survivors, and Enhanced Beings, with the call open nationwide and welcoming all body types and experience levels. It is a waitlist-style opportunity, meaning applicants are not guaranteed placement but are kept on file as production needs arise.

Those role categories are doing a lot of quiet storytelling on their own. The presence of “Enhanced Beings” and “Survivors” in particular points directly to the chaotic multiverse collision at the heart of the source material. The 2015 comic event that inspired the film begins with the collision of the last surviving universes, bringing together heroes and villains from across the multiverse, and ends with Doctor Doom reshaping reality entirely. A world populated by warriors, displaced civilians, and people with extraordinary abilities fits that vision perfectly.

The film is described in the casting listing itself as a massive crossover event that concludes the multiversal storyline initiated in Phase 4, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a theatrical release currently scheduled for December 17, 2027. The confirmed cast already includes Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, and several others, with the film expected to feature a roster that dwarfs even ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

The scale implied by this casting call aligns with everything Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said about what the film represents for the franchise. Speaking to Variety ahead of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, Feige described ‘Secret Wars’ as a turning point for the entire MCU, saying it would function as a reset rather than a reboot, with a singular timeline emerging from the chaos. “Endgame, literally, was about endings,” he said. “‘Secret Wars’ is about beginnings.”

Some fans have raised concerns that with filming potentially starting as late as August 2026, the December 2027 release date may prove difficult to meet, comparing the compressed timeline to ‘Doomsday’, which filmed from April to September 2025 before its own December 2026 release. Marvel has not commented publicly on a potential delay, but the studio has shown it is already moving on multiple production fronts simultaneously to keep things on schedule.

For a film promising to be the culmination of nearly two decades of storytelling, it is fitting that the very first visible signs of production are this broad, this varied, and this quietly suggestive of enormous things to come. Whether you hope to be a Survivor on Battleworld or simply a Civilian caught in the crossfire of colliding realities, the question worth asking is: which of those six role categories do you think hints most at where the story of ‘Secret Wars’ is actually headed?
