Gal Gadot has confirmed she hasn’t spoken with James Gunn or DC Studios about a potential return to the role of Wonder Woman, while offering a heartfelt message for whoever ultimately takes over the part. Speaking with ScreenRant while promoting her new Prime Video thriller ‘The Runner,’ Gadot said she hasn’t had “any specific conversations” about either reprising her role or taking on a different character within Gunn’s DCU, similar to how her former co-star Jason Momoa transitioned into playing Lobo.

According to Gadot, the last substantial conversation she had on the subject was when studio executives expressed interest in developing a third Wonder Woman film, though she noted that was quite some time ago and she hasn’t “heard anything” since. Looking ahead to the character’s future without her, Gadot offered a message of genuine support, saying, “This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it’s going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character.”

Gadot’s comments arrive after years of mixed signals surrounding her DCU future. Back in 2023, she publicly stated that Gunn and Peter Safran had personally assured her a third Wonder Woman film would move forward, recalling that they told her she was “in the best hands” and had “nothing to worry about.” That project never materialized, and reports later indicated no formal commitments had actually been made regarding her return.

Gunn further muddied the waters in 2024 when he seemingly confirmed a recast was underway, responding “Correct” to a fan who suggested a new Wonder Woman hadn’t been cast yet for the DCU’s animated series ‘Creature Commandos.’ Speculation has since pointed toward Adria Arjona potentially stepping into the role for Gunn’s upcoming film ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ though that casting remains unconfirmed by the studio.

Since stepping away from the character, Gadot has kept a busy schedule across multiple high-profile projects, including Disney’s live-action ‘Snow White’ remake, Netflix’s action-thriller ‘Heart of Stone,’ and now Prime Video’s ‘The Runner.’ That range of work suggests her focus has genuinely shifted elsewhere, even as fans continue to hold out hope for some kind of DCU comeback.
