Robert Pattinson Admits ‘The Batman: Part II’ Is “Kicking His Ass” – And He Loves It

Sequels to beloved comic book films always carry a certain amount of pressure, but few have taken quite as long to actually reach cameras as this one. After years of delays, rewrites, and shifting release dates, Matt Reeves’ follow-up to 2022’s ‘The Batman’ is finally deep into production, and its leading man is opening up about just how demanding the shoot has actually been.

That candor comes at an interesting moment in Robert Pattinson’s career, roughly four years removed from first stepping into the cowl and clearly feeling the physical toll of returning to such a demanding role. Rather than downplaying the difficulty, Pattinson has been refreshingly honest about exactly what filming this sequel has required of him.

Robert Pattinson opened up about filming ‘The Batman: Part 2,’ admitting the shoot has been genuinely grueling. “I’m definitely feeling my age when fighting a lot,” he told GQ. “I’m literally like, ‘Goddamn, this is significantly harder than it used to be.’ But it’s really fun. And I think the movie’s going to be pretty great. It’s got a really, really fun cast, but it’s a marathon.”

That marathon comparison lines up with what’s known about the production so far. Filming began in London in June 2026 and includes roughly 11 weeks of night shoots, a grueling schedule that helps explain exactly why Pattinson’s comment about physical exhaustion rings so true.

Pattinson isn’t alone in reprising his role for the sequel. Colin Farrell returns as Oz Cobb, better known as the Penguin, alongside Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Jim Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, keeping much of the original film’s emotional core intact heading into the follow-up.

The sequel has also brought in a wave of high-profile new additions to round out its ensemble. Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson are joining the cast in previously undisclosed roles, though reports have suggested Stan may be stepping into the role of Harvey Dent, alongside Brian Tyree Henry and German actor Sebastian Koch.

Notably absent from the returning cast are Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as the Riddler, both of whom played central roles in the first film but aren’t expected to appear in this next chapter. Matt Reeves co-wrote the script for ‘The Batman: Part II’ alongside Mattson Tomlin, continuing their creative partnership from the original film.

The first ‘Batman’ film grossed close to $800 million worldwide for Warner Bros. and earned three Oscar nominations, setting a high bar for this follow-up to clear both critically and commercially. Given how much time has passed since the original’s release, and how much star power the sequel is now bringing in, expectations for ‘Part II’ have only continued building.

With filming continuing in London through the end of the year, Pattinson’s comments offer a rare, unfiltered glimpse into just how physically demanding this next chapter of Gotham’s story has been to bring to life. Whatever exhaustion the shoot has caused, Pattinson’s enthusiasm for the finished product seems to have remained fully intact.
