‘Obsession’s’ Freaky Nikki Just Got Her First Real-World Look, and She’s Already Causing a Stir

Horror movie success stories rarely translate into a physical theme park presence within the same calendar year, but 2026’s biggest breakout hit has moved fast enough to pull it off. What started as a scrappy, ultra-low-budget film has already turned into a genuine cultural phenomenon, and now it’s making the leap from screen to scare zone.

That leap comes courtesy of Universal Studios Hollywood, which surprised fans back at the Midsummer Scream convention with news that this year’s horror sensation would be joining its annual Halloween celebration. Now, with the event officially underway, attendees are finally getting their first real glimpses of the character in action.

First look at Nikki from ‘Obsession’ as a roaming character at Halloween Horror Nights in Hollywood, according to DiscussingFilm. Inde Navarrette’s breakout performance as Nikki Freeman is being brought to life through a version of the character pulled directly from the film’s bloody, tattooed climax.

Halloween Horror Nights Creative Director John Murdy first teased the addition, describing Nikki’s presence throughout the park with a playful challenge for guests. “Nikki’s out there somewhere,” he said at Midsummer Scream. “You kind of have to get into a ‘Where’s Waldo?’ mentality. She’s out there somewhere, and she might be looking for her next obsession.”

Unlike most roaming characters at the event, Nikki is being portrayed by traditional actors rather than the park’s usual non-speaking scare performers. Murdy explained the reasoning behind that choice to The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “Normally, our scare actors don’t speak, but it seemed really important to give Nikki the authentic voice Curry gave her,” referring to director Curry Barker. The dialogue these performers use is scripted by Murdy himself and pulled directly from lines in the film.

That approach mirrors last year’s addition of Art the Clown from the ‘Terrifier’ franchise, another roaming character designed to activate unexpected corners of the theme park beyond its traditional haunted houses. Murdy compared the two directly, noting the goal was to create “this thing to activate areas of the theme park you would never expect to see a performer in,” including the park’s retail store.

Nikki’s inclusion hasn’t come without some pushback, given her role in the film as ultimately a victim of a supernatural bargain rather than the story’s true villain. In ‘Obsession,’ Bear, played by Michael Johnston, makes a Faustian wish on a One Wish Willow hoping to win Nikki’s affection, only for the spell to twist her into a dangerously obsessive version of herself. Some fans have debated whether turning a victimized character into a haunted attraction sends a mixed message, though the film’s creative team has noted similar transformations have long been a horror staple, pointing to characters like Regan from ‘The Exorcist’ and Carrie White.

‘Obsession’ was made on a reported budget of roughly $750,000 and has since grossed nearly half a billion dollars worldwide, making its rapid jump to theme park integration all the more notable given how quickly the film built its cultural footprint. Navarrette herself has expressed genuine excitement about the crossover, having previously told Cosmopolitan it was her “dream” to see the film become part of Halloween Horror Nights.
