Hollywood’s stretch of sidewalk stars has always carried a strange duality, celebrating careers while also occasionally becoming targets for those looking to make an unwelcome statement. Most of the time, that vandalism reflects genuine controversy attached to whoever’s name sits beneath the tourists’ feet. This time, it’s been something else entirely.

In the days following Dolly Parton’s death on August 25 at age 80, her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame quietly transformed into an unofficial memorial site. Fans steadily left flowers, candles, and handwritten notes at the location, turning a decades-old tribute into a gathering point for grief and appreciation of the country icon’s decades-long legacy.

Dolly Parton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was recently vandalized, with her name scratched off, according to Pop Base. Repairs are reportedly underway at the landmark. A fan named Lore Corona discovered the damage while visiting the star with her daughters to leave flowers, capturing the scene in a video posted to social media.

“Somebody decided to do this about 10 minutes before we got here,” Corona said in her video. “It just doesn’t make any sense.” According to her account, a custodian at the scene told her that a woman had kicked around candles previously left at the memorial and then used the shards from one of them to scratch across the star.

Flowers left at the site were also reportedly stolen alongside the scratched name, adding another layer to what fans have described as a genuinely upsetting act against a memorial that had only existed for about a week. Ana Martinez, a spokesperson for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, told TMZ that Parton’s star had actually already been scheduled for repair work due to prior cracking, unrelated to this latest incident, before the vandalism took place.

Parton originally received her Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 1984, in a rare dual dedication ceremony alongside Sylvester Stallone, her co-star in the film “Rhinestone.” That star has stood for more than four decades as one of many honors recognizing her impact across music, film, and philanthropy.

The vandalism has drawn a wave of online frustration from fans still processing Parton’s death, many of whom have continued visiting the site to pay their respects even after the damage occurred. Construction crews have since been documented working to repair the star, with photos circulating on social media showing the restoration efforts underway.

No suspect has been publicly identified in connection with the vandalism, and officials have not indicated whether any criminal charges are being pursued. For a tribute that had only just become a gathering place for fans mourning one of country music’s most beloved figures, the timing of the damage has made an already difficult week even harder for those honoring her memory.
