Dexter Has Two New Killers to Hunt in New York, and They Look Seriously Dangerous, Check out the First Look

Dexter Morgan is heading into another dangerous chapter, and this time New York is giving him more than enough trouble to keep him busy. Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is bringing in two brand-new killers, and the first-look images make it clear that Dexter will have some seriously disturbing people to deal with. Michael C. Hall returns as Dexter, but his biggest problem may not be finding these killers. It may be surviving everything happening around him.

The new season takes Dexter away from the streets of Miami and puts him in New York, giving the show a much bigger playground for its twisted stories. According to Paramount+’s official description, Dexter becomes “caught between two killers, one notorious and the other terrorizing New York in ways no one ever anticipated.” That would already be enough trouble for most people, but Dexter also has another problem waiting for him. The season will explore what the show calls his biggest enemy yet: a midlife crisis.

One of the new killers is Ray Ballard, played by Gabriel Luna. Ballard has the creepy nickname The Sleepy-Eyed Stranger, and his method is very different from the usual killer Dexter has faced. He does not simply break into a home and attack someone. Instead, he enters people’s houses and quietly changes things around. He moves belongings and makes small changes that leave his victims feeling confused and uncomfortable. Once he has played with their minds enough, he takes things much further.

That makes Ballard especially unsettling because his crimes begin with fear rather than violence. His victims may not even know someone has entered their homes at first. They simply notice that something feels wrong. For Dexter, a killer who enjoys controlling people psychologically could be a very different kind of challenge. Gabriel Luna is also no stranger to dark roles, having recently appeared in Peacock’s Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy and preparing to return as Tommy in HBO’s The Last of Us.

Dan Stevens is also joining the season as another major threat, known as The Five Borough Killer. This character appears to be a much louder and more public danger than Ballard. According to Paramount+’s character information, the killer calls the police and threatens to murder innocent people across New York’s five boroughs. He then carries out those threats, turning the entire city into his target.

The character is clearly inspired by the famous Zodiac Killer case, which makes the mystery surrounding him even more interesting. Instead of hiding completely, The Five Borough Killer wants attention. He wants the police to know what he is doing, and he wants the city to be afraid. That could put Dexter in a strange position because he may have to hunt someone who is already attracting massive attention from law enforcement.

There is another familiar threat waiting for Dexter, too. Brian Cox returns as Don Framt, better known as The New York Ripper. Fans first learned about Framt near the end of Season 1 when Dexter discovered information about him inside Leon Prater’s collection. Framt is retired from killing, but that does not mean he is harmless. He continues to torment people who survived his earlier crimes, giving him a different kind of power over his victims.

The returning cast also gives Season 2 plenty of familiar faces. Uma Thurman returns as Charley, while Jack Alcott is back as Harrison Morgan. James Remar also returns as Harry, Dexter’s late father. Bokeem Woodbine and Nona Parker Johnson continue as Captain Mixon and Fiona Mixon, while Desmond Harrington has been promoted to a series regular as Joey Quinn. Krysten Ritter is also coming back as Mia LaPierre, also known as Lady Vengeance.

Mia’s return is especially interesting because of what happened to her in Season 1. Her appearance could come through a flashback, vision, or another unusual part of Dexter’s story, rather than a simple return to the present. That fits the strange direction the franchise has taken as Dexter’s past continues to follow him wherever he goes.

With two new killers hunting in New York, an older killer still causing trouble, and Dexter struggling with his own life, Season 2 looks like it will give Michael C. Hall plenty to work with. The first-look images suggest that this will not be a simple hunt where Dexter finds a killer and takes them down. He may have to deal with several threats at once while also questioning what he wants from his life.
