One Small Detail Just Reignited the Loudest James Bond Casting Rumor Yet
The hunt for the next James Bond has turned into one of Hollywood’s longest-running guessing games, with a rotating cast of names rising and falling in the odds seemingly by the week. Fans have combed through red carpet appearances, podcast comments, and offhand remarks looking for any sign of who will finally inherit the tuxedo.
This time, though, it wasn’t a leak or a betting market shift that got everyone talking. It was a small, easily overlooked production detail that suddenly connected all the dots for a lot of people at once.
That detail centers on Jack Lowden, the Scottish star of ‘Slow Horses,’ and the fact that Nina Gold, the casting director attached to the upcoming Bond 26, is the very same person who cast Lowden in his breakout role on that Apple TV+ series. It’s a connection that, on its own, might mean little, but paired with everything else swirling around Lowden’s name, it has convinced plenty of fans that he’s already secured the part.
The theory gained serious traction after Gary Oldman, Lowden’s ‘Slow Horses’ co-star, appeared to suggest the decision had already been made behind closed doors. Speaking to reporters at the Toronto International Film Festival, Oldman clarified his earlier comments while still backing his colleague for the role. “I simply said: ‘Well, I believe that they’ve chosen the guy… and Jack is on the list,’ and I said: ‘Fingers crossed for Jack,'” he told reporters, according to a report shared by CTV News.
Oldman went further, laying out exactly why he thinks Lowden fits the part. He described the 36-year-old actor as young, masculine and “incredibly funny,” while also noting that Lowden’s Scottish roots could serve as a nod to Sean Connery, the actor who originated the role in 1962. According to Oldman, that combination of charisma and a “twinkle in his eye” is precisely what the character has always needed.

Lowden isn’t a newcomer to this conversation. His name has circulated as a potential 007 for years, and speculation intensified further after commentator Richard Osman claimed on his own podcast that Lowden was being “strongly considered” for the role. Reports have also placed him among a shortlist of actors, including Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi and Paul Mescal, who were expected to screen-test for the part.
His resume certainly reads like Bond preparation. Beyond ‘Slow Horses,’ Lowden has appeared in ‘Dunkirk,’ ‘Mary Queen of Scots’ and ‘Benediction,’ and he’s set to play Mr. Darcy in an upcoming Netflix adaptation of ‘Pride and Prejudice.’ He trained at what is now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and has already earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his television work.
Bond 26 is set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Steven Knight, the creator of ‘Peaky Blinders,’ penning the screenplay. Producers have not confirmed a decision, and history suggests plenty of rumored frontrunners never end up landing the role.
