‘Coven Academy’ Release Date, Time and Where to Watch Freeform’s New Witch Drama
Freeform’s new supernatural teen drama ‘Coven Academy’ premieres on Thursday, October 1 at 8 p.m., with the full season arriving the next day on Disney+, Hulu and Freeform on Demand. That split rollout gives viewers a choice between watching on live television or streaming everything at once.
The ‘Coven Academy’ release date arrives with a point of clarification for anyone searching for a second season. This is the series debut, and one outlet that tracks renewals notes there is no word on a second season at this point. What follows covers the premiere schedule, the streaming options and what the first season has in store.
‘Coven Academy’ Release Date and Release Time on Freeform
The premiere airs at 8 p.m. ET and PT on Freeform as part of the network’s 31 Nights of Halloween. Freeform’s Thursday 8 p.m. timeslot is the one listed for the series. That places it squarely in the network’s seasonal horror and fantasy programming.
On live TV, more chapters follow on October 8, with the season finale airing on October 15. The first season is built differently from a standard weekly drama. It consists of 21 fast paced chapters, which TV Fanatic says will air more like three movies on Freeform.
Viewers who prefer to skip the weekly schedule have a second date to mark. The full season is available on October 2 on Disney+ around the world, along with Hulu and Freeform on Demand in the United States.
Where to Watch ‘Coven Academy’ on Disney+, Hulu and Freeform
The series airs on Freeform and streams on Disney+, Hulu and Freeform on Demand. Anyone with a cable login can catch the live broadcast, while subscribers to either streaming service can wait for the complete season.
The Disney+ release extends beyond the United States. A report from Argentina confirms the complete season will be available on Disney+ on October 2, 2026. International audiences therefore do not need to wait for the weekly broadcast schedule.
The all at once approach was a deliberate choice. Disney described it as a new release strategy aimed at viewers with shorter attention spans. The story unfolds through a series of fast paced chapters designed to draw audiences deeper into the magic.
Not every critic is sold on the format. In an opinion piece, TV Fanatic welcomed the show as a good fit for Freeform but said a weekly release would have suited it better than a bingeable one.
‘Coven Academy’ Preview and Series Premise
The story unfolds in the haunted heart of New Orleans, where three teenage witches and their dangerously charming warlock peers attend an elite magic boarding school. Power is currency there, secrets are lethal and attraction is a liability. Caught between ancient supernatural wars and forbidden love interests, the coven must decide how far they will go to protect their city and themselves.
The central character is Briar. She is a New York teenager sent to a New Orleans magic school called Crescent Vail after her mother mysteriously dies. Fangirlish describes her as a fiercely independent New Yorker who discovers she is a witch.
The marketing has leaned on romance and rivalry. The first teaser, set to Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Brutal’, reveals tensions within the budding coven, fueled by the mysteries surrounding Briar’s past and Jake’s influential, dangerous desires. A later trailer shows Briar struggling to hone her new powers and a turbulent love triangle between her, Jake and Ollie.
‘Coven Academy’ Cast and Season 2 Outlook
Malina Pauli Weissman plays Briar, with Malachi Barton as Jake, Jordan Leftwich as Sasha, Ora Duplass as Tegan and Louis Thresher as Ollie, a newly turned vampire. Tiffani Thiessen plays Miss Graves, the head of the school. Devon Sawa appears as a guest star in the role of Mr. Cole.
Behind the camera, Tim Federle created the series and executive produces alongside Darren Swimmer, Todd Slavkin, Amanda Row and Bronwyn North-Reist, with Federle’s Chorus Boy Productions producing in association with Disney Kids and Family. Gabriel Mann has been tapped to score the show, continuing a past collaboration with Federle.
As for what comes next, a second season has not been announced. Cancelled Sci Fi notes that Freeform used to be known for supernatural dramas aimed at younger audiences, and suggests the series may be in the right place to find success. With Briar, Jake and Ollie already caught in a love triangle before the first chapter even airs, which side of it are you rooting for once the full season lands on Disney+ and Hulu?
