Margaret Qualley Turns on the Charm for ‘Love of Your Life’ Press as Her Romantic Drama Hits Screens
Margaret Qualley has had an incredibly busy year on screen. ‘Love of Your Life’ marks her third film of the year, following ‘How to Make a Killing’ and Ridley Scott’s ‘The Dog Stars’. Her latest project is a deeply emotional one.
Directed by Rachel Morrison, the Oscar-nominated cinematographer behind ‘The Fire Inside’, the romantic drama is the filmmaker’s second feature behind the camera and was produced by Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson.
With the film rolling out, Qualley has been making the rounds to promote it. A new image from her ‘Love of Your Life’ press tour shows the actress striking a moody pose by a softly lit window.
She wears a dark olive suede halter top with a scooped neckline, letting the rich, earthy tone take center stage. Her dark hair falls in voluminous, glossy waves past her shoulders, while subtle earrings and soft makeup keep the look effortless.

The understated styling matches the film’s grounded, intimate tone. It’s a polished yet relaxed choice that lets Qualley’s expressive gaze do most of the work. In the film, Qualley plays Maya, a smart and wry ER nurse in Boston whose chance encounter with Charlie, played by Gabriel Basso, sets off a sweeping romance.
When that future is suddenly upended, Maya is sent hurtling toward an unexpected new life that forces her to reckon with who she is and how to love again. The story spans years of her life, using chapter headlines to follow Maya from age 26 into her mid-thirties. Set just before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, it explores grief, escape and eventual renewal, with Julia Cox writing the screenplay.

Qualley is joined by an impressive ensemble. Aaron Pierre plays Felix, Patrick Schwarzenegger takes on the role of Jason, and Catherine Keener plays Ruth, with Tamara Lawrance and Corey Johnson rounding out the cast.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Special Presentations category on September 13, and reviews have been mixed. Variety praised Qualley’s performance for its intelligence and emotional transparency, even while calling the healing journey surface-level, and suggested the film should draw strong streaming numbers.

Others were less impressed. The Hollywood Reporter felt the story becomes unpersuasive once reality pierces the central romance, while RogerEbert.com gave it 1.5 stars and took issue with both the dialogue and the casting.
Next Best Picture, on the other hand, was far more enthusiastic. The outlet awarded the film a 9 out of 10, highlighting Keener’s powerful supporting turn, Qualley’s committed performance, and its life-affirming message.
Audiences can decide for themselves very soon. Amazon MGM Studios released ‘Love of Your Life’ in select U.S. theaters on October 7, and it will stream globally on Prime Video starting October 14.

The film runs 1 hour and 49 minutes and features a score by Dustin O’Halloran. With a heavyweight producer in Gosling and a cast full of rising stars, it’s poised to find a wide audience once it lands on streaming. For Qualley, the project caps off a remarkable run of work this year. Her press appearances suggest she’s fully embracing the spotlight as the film finds its audience.
