For years, fans of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ have wondered whether the beloved Marvel series would ever get its due in the wider MCU. The show ended in 2020 after 7 seasons, and its characters have been absent from the franchise ever since.

Starring Clark Gregg and Chloe Bennet, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ was Marvel’s first true live-action TV series. Some of its stars have even expressed frustration that the mainstream MCU has yet to acknowledge their show, while still voicing eagerness to return.

That hope got a major boost at New York Comic Con, where Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum announced ‘Zodiac’, a live-action spy thriller headed to Disney+ in 2028. Filming is set to begin in London next spring, with casting expected to start in the coming weeks.

Now, a new report is adding fuel to the fire. According to industry insider Alex from CC, some characters from ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will reportedly return in ‘Zodiac’. Marvel has not confirmed which characters, if any, will appear. For now, almost everything about the series remains under wraps.

Fans had already begun connecting the dots before the report surfaced. The series’ title art features an “A” that closely resembles the eagle emblem used for S.H.I.E.L.D. in the MCU. Insider Daniel Richtman also highlighted the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo in the title card. He separately confirmed that ‘Zodiac’ is the show’s real title rather than a production codename.

Then came an intriguing tease from Clark Gregg himself. The actor shared the ‘Zodiac’ announcement on his Instagram Stories with a simple one-word comment, “Cool,” which fans quickly recognized as his character’s final line of dialogue in ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

Social media lit up with requests after the announcement. Many fans called for the return of Daisy Johnson, also known as Quake, with replies to Marvel’s post welcoming her back and asking if she would appear.

Others hoped to see Gregg’s Phil Coulson or Ming-Na Wen’s Melinda May. By the end of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, the team had become heroes on a cosmic scale, making them natural fits for a larger MCU story.

In Marvel comics, the Zodiac cartel first appeared in ‘Avengers’ #72 in 1970. The group featured 12 supervillain leaders, each representing a sign of the zodiac. The organization has deep ties to S.H.I.E.L.D. and to Nick Fury in particular. Its leader, Scorpio, is Nick Fury’s envious younger brother, Jacob Fury.

Fury himself hasn’t been seen in the MCU since ‘Secret Invasion’. Because ‘Zodiac’ arrives after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, some fans believe his return is possible too. The announcement arrives at an interesting time for Marvel Television. Rumors about the series first began circulating after news broke of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ being canceled.

‘Zodiac’ is the first new live-action Marvel series announced since ‘Ironheart’. It suggests the studio isn’t giving up on streaming, even as its current slate winds down, with reports claiming several more projects are quietly in development.

Until Marvel confirms its cast, the ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ connection remains speculation. Still, between the logo, Gregg’s tease, and the new report, fans have plenty of reasons to stay hopeful.

Which ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ character would you most like to see return in Marvel’s ‘Zodiac’?
