Who Is Lisa Molinari in ‘VisionQuest’ and How She Connects to Marvel’s Coat of Arms

Share:

Lisa Molinari in ‘VisionQuest’ is introduced halfway through the first episode, when Thomas Shepherd stumbles into a pub looking for the owner of a watch. She is played by Lauren Morais and stands beside Thomas, a London lad who somehow shares a soul with Tommy Maximoff, the son of Wanda and Vision.

The name may not mean much to casual viewers, but comic readers know that Lisa Molinari eventually becomes the villain Coat of Arms, a member of the Masters of Evil. That history makes her a notable addition to a series that is described as the third part of a trilogy that includes ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Agatha All Along’.

Lisa Molinari in ‘VisionQuest’ So Far

The opening episode shows Tommy running a scam on a man in a pub with Lisa, who would have preferred to pickpocket him, while Tommy likes something more elaborate. Their plan is interrupted when Tommy sees Vision on the news, which triggers memories he cannot explain, and Lisa has to calm him down after a panic attack.

The second episode fills in how the two met. A year earlier, Thomas is sent to a psychiatric facility, and on the prisoner transport he meets the pickpocket Lisa and discovers he can absorb and redirect electricity. The two escape together and become partners in crime.

Recaps of the two episode premiere describe Thomas as a con artist who works with Lisa and has had to fend for himself, unlike his brother Billy, who was raised in a loving family. Her role in the opening chapters is therefore that of a loyal partner and a steadying presence. It is the kind of grounded relationship that gives a show about artificial minds and borrowed memories some human weight.

Lauren Morais Joins the Cast

Variety broke the casting news, reporting that Morais would play Lisa Molinari, a character closely connected to Ruaridh Mollica’s Thomas Shepherd. The part is the biggest yet for the young Welsh actress, whose television credits include ‘Mudtown’, ‘The Red King’ and ‘The Crow Girl’.

The series was created by Terry Matalas and shot at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom. The first two episodes arrived on October 14, with the remaining episodes following in pairs before a finale on November 11.

SFX Magazine devoted an issue to the series, and its new images showed Morais as Lisa Molinari, also known as Coat of Arms. At first glance she appears to be an ally of Tommy, even though her comic counterpart takes a darker road.

Coat of Arms in Marvel Comics

Coat of Arms debuted in the first issue of the Dark Reign Young Avengers series, created by writer Paul Cornell and artist Mark Brooks. She is a swordswoman whose magic coat grants her six arms.

In the comics she met Thomas Shepherd, the hero known as Speed, while the two were in juvenile detention, and she struggled to find work after parole. She then found a coat standing in an alleyway and assembled her own team of Young Avengers, which she saw as an art project about the nature of superheroism.

Her artwork was inspired by Norman Osborn’s life as the Green Goblin, and her team clashed with the real Young Avengers over the shared name. When Osborn unleashed the Sentry, Coat of Arms refused to watch a massacre and helped bind and banish him from the battlefield.

She later returned to the Young Masters when they joined the adult Masters of Evil. That arc, from reluctant troublemaker to villain, is the path the series may be drawing from.

Lisa Molinari and Tommy Shepherd Going Forward

When the two teams met in the comics, Speed and Lisa showed a mutual attraction and tried to recruit each other before splitting on good terms. Their relationship never grew beyond a goodbye kiss, since both declined the offers.

The MCU Wiki lists Lisa as a close acquaintance of Thomas Shepherd and notes that the comics establish a recurring platonic relationship between the two. That suggests the television version has kept the bond while reshaping the circumstances around it.

TVLine suggests that the show could be planting the seeds for her to become Coat of Arms and potentially clash with Thomas and the MCU’s Young Avengers. The coverage of the first two episodes treats that transformation as a possibility rather than something the series has confirmed.

With the remaining chapters still to come, Lisa’s path from loyal partner to possible villain is one of the quieter questions hanging over the season. We would like to hear in the comments whether you want Lisa to remain at Tommy’s side to the end or to pick up the coat and follow the Masters of Evil path she takes in the comics.
