‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Sneaks Into the ‘9-1-1’ Season Premiere, and Marvel Fans Are Already Counting Down
Marvel fans have become experts at spotting ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ teases in the most unexpected places, and the latest one showed up on a disaster drama nobody expected to join the hype. The Russo brothers’ crossover event, featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18.
The anticipation has been building for months. Earlier this week, viewers even spotted a “Countdown to Doomsday” label inside Ultron’s attic room in Vision’s mind space during the two-episode premiere of ‘VisionQuest’, sparking theories about how the Disney+ series might connect to the film.
Meanwhile, ABC was busy launching a milestone season of its own. ‘9-1-1’ returned for its 10th season on Thursday, October 15, with new episodes airing Thursdays on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu.
The premiere, titled “That Sinking Feeling,” throws the 118 into a major volcanic emergency in Los Angeles. Showrunner Tim Minear has described how the season opens with a massive sinkhole on a famous Los Angeles boulevard that turns into an erupting volcano.
That big-scale setting is exactly where the unexpected cameo appeared. After the episode aired, a clip began circulating online showing a street scene on Hollywood Boulevard, with the marquee of the El Capitan Theatre prominently displaying ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ next to a Disney Store and a chocolate shop.

One fan account captioned the clip with an all-caps reaction about spotting the Marvel film in the show. Another account, @drdoomarchive, shared the moment with a playful note that everyone is getting ready for the December 18 date.
The connection isn’t as random as it might seem. The El Capitan is a Disney-run venue on Hollywood Boulevard, and it has already announced special ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ screenings in Infinity Vision, starting on Thursday, December 17.

The moment also highlights how Disney’s marketing machine works. When a franchise is this big, its branding tends to slip into the world around it, and a large disaster set against recognizable Los Angeles landmarks made the theater’s marquee an easy fit.
Whether it was a deliberate nudge or simply the reality of filming on Hollywood Boulevard, fans treated it like a free piece of marketing. For many viewers, it was just one more reminder that the countdown is officially on.
The hype is understandable given the film’s scale. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ was originally scheduled for early May 2026 before being pushed to December, with its sequel, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, set for December 17, 2027.
The marketing has already delivered some major surprises. A teaser released on December 23, 2025, confirmed the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, while the latest trailer shows him sporting a long-haired, bearded look and once again wielding Mjolnir.

The film is also being built as a true crossover event that finally puts the X-Men and the Avengers on the same screen. Thor appears to lead the heroes again, alongside Sam Wilson’s New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Wakanda’s protectors, and Namor’s Talokan warriors.
With just a couple of months to go, fans are clearly scanning every Disney property for clues. From ‘VisionQuest’ set dressing to a Hollywood theater sign in ‘9-1-1’, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is turning up everywhere.
For the 118, the volcano is only the beginning of a new chapter, with Athena settling into a detective role and Buck taking on foster parenting. For Marvel fans, though, the most memorable part of the premiere might just be that glowing marquee.
