‘Yellowjackets’ Star Sophie Thatcher Becomes a Gilded Work of Art in Newly Shared Academy Museum Gala Photos
Few rising stars have built a career as distinctive as Sophie Thatcher’s, moving fluidly between prestige television, horror, music and high fashion. The ‘Yellowjackets’ breakout has become one of Hollywood’s most watchable young talents, and her red carpet choices have increasingly matched the boldness of her roles.
That reputation was on full display at the Academy Museum Gala on Saturday, October 17, a night widely dubbed the “Met Gala of the West.” Stars arrived in sculptural couture that looked ready for a gallery wing, with a striking wave of architectural peplums emerging as one of the evening’s defining trends.
Now, a fresh set of images from Thatcher’s gala glam is making the rounds online. Shared by several outlets, the photos show both sides of her evening, from relaxed preparation to full editorial glamour.
The first is a behind-the-scenes shot of her long, dark waves being styled, with soft makeup and a white strapless top. The second is a full-length portrait in her sculptural metallic gold gown, posed against a plain backdrop that lets every fold and ridge stand out.
Thatcher wore custom Louis Vuitton, styled by Turner, and landed a spot on WWD’s best-dressed list for the night. The gold lamé bustier column gown featured a scalloped neckline formed by closely spaced vertical ridges that continued into a fitted metallic bodice.

The real showstopper was at the waist. Dense, pleated tiers flared out in Art Deco-inspired layers, creating a dramatic peplum effect before the look returned to a simpler gold column skirt below.
Not every critic was fully sold. Red Carpet Fashion Awards praised the sculptural construction and compared its exaggerated hips to Elizabethan court dress, but felt the narrow skirt and its length made the lower half feel awkward against the elaborate top.
The gala marked a celebratory stretch for the actress, who turned 26 the very next day. Inside the event, she was photographed alongside Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu and Iris Law, both fellow guests at the star-studded fundraiser.
Her Louis Vuitton connection also runs deep this season. She sat front row at the brand’s show during Paris Fashion Week on October 6, and she wore a custom Louis Vuitton dress to the Cannes premiere of her latest film back in May.

That film was ‘Her Private Hell’, Nicolas Winding Refn’s sci-fi horror, which premiered at Cannes on May 18 and drew a 7-minute standing ovation. Thatcher plays Elle, a troubled young woman searching for her father after a mysterious mist engulfs a futuristic city, starring alongside Charles Melton, Kristine Froseth, Havana Rose Liu and Diego Calva.
The movie reached US theaters on July 24 and arrived on digital platforms on August 25, with a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release set for November 24. Thatcher has also joined ‘The Babadook’ director Jennifer Kent’s upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘The Girl Who Was Plugged In’.

Her horror credentials are already impressive. Beyond playing the teenage Natalie in ‘Yellowjackets’, she starred opposite Hugh Grant in ‘Heretic’, anchored ‘Companion’ alongside Jack Quaid and appeared in ‘MaXXXine’.

Music remains another creative outlet. Thatcher released a debut EP in 2024 and gave her first live performance this year at a Prada Mode installation at the Hotel Chelsea, signaling how seriously she takes that side of her artistry. With a gilded gala look, a birthday celebration, and a growing slate of genre projects, Thatcher’s momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
