Marketing for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has become a game of reading between the lines, and merchandise is turning out to be a surprisingly good source of clues. With the film arriving on December 18, every piece of artwork, toy, and T-shirt is being studied for hints about how the story will play out. The latest discovery points to a team-up that fans have been hoping to see.

That pairing is Thor and Steve Rogers. Chris Evans’ return was confirmed in a teaser that aired before ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ in December 2025, which showed Steve packing away his Captain America suit and holding a newborn baby before announcing that he will return. A Thor teaser followed on December 30, and the Russo brothers are back as directors, with Robert Downey Jr. playing Victor von Doom.

The two characters then came together in the film’s first official trailer, introduced at CinemaCon. Thor rallies the X-Men, the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, and the surviving Avengers to face Doom, and the footage closes on his reunion with Steve, who proves it’s really him by summoning Mjolnir, just as he did in ‘Endgame’. Now, new merchandise has given the duo a dedicated symbol.

MCU – The Direct shared the design, which is called the ‘Worthy Star’. According to several outlets, it shows Thor and Steve each holding a hammer inside a star split into red and blue halves, with lightning crackling through the artwork and the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ logo underneath. The Direct reports that the logo was revealed on a Hot Toys Special Edition figure of Steve, where it appears on a life-sized metal ring included in the package.

The design has since turned up elsewhere. A sweatshirt at Target pairs Thor and Steve under a new Avengers logo, and Box Lunch has merchandise with a worthiness star symbol and a Mjolnir logo. Together, they suggest the studio is pushing the duo as a core part of the film’s identity.

The star motif raises some eyebrows. Steve is no longer Captain America, having passed on the shield to Sam Wilson, and he isn’t expected to wear a star-shaped design in the film. The Direct notes that the ‘Worthy Star’ is the second logo Marvel has created for Steve’s comeback, following an earlier one that used Mjolnir rather than the shield as his primary symbol.

That fits a larger shift in how the character is presented. According to Wikipedia’s summary of reporting, Evans and Anthony Mackie have indicated that Steve will take on the Nomad mantle, similar to the comics. The logo’s use of a hammer instead of a shield reinforces the idea that Steve’s role is changing.

Thor’s part in the story is just as telling. The film brings him back to the warrior-like mindset he had in ‘Infinity War’, and co-director Joe Russo has said the character seeks to achieve meaning through battle. The trailer shows him warning the new Avengers that Doom is scarier than anything he faced with the original team.

Pairing him with Steve gives the marketing a strong emotional hook. The two worked together through the Infinity Saga, and the long-haired, bearded version of Steve seen in the trailer evokes his appearance in ‘Infinity War’. A shared emblem built around worthiness to wield Mjolnir makes that connection explicit.

It’s worth keeping expectations in check. Marketing materials can hint at a partnership, but Marvel hasn’t spelled out exactly how Thor and Steve will work together in the film. The logo suggests they’ll be positioned as a duo, yet plenty remains unconfirmed about their roles in the story.

What’s clear is that the studio is leaning hard on nostalgia and spectacle. The film is set to feature an enormous ensemble, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following on December 17, 2027. If the merchandise is any indication, the moment of Steve and Thor standing side by side with their hammers could be one of the biggest crowd-pleasers of the holiday season.
