The next chapter of ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ is set to arrive on Thursday, October 29, under the title “Arcana.” Episode guides list it as the 598th episode overall, written by Brant Englestein. It follows the third installment, “Anonymity,” which is listed for October 22.

This guide covers the release date, air time and streaming options, along with a preview of the story. The squad also has a milestone ahead, as the series’ 600th episode is set to air during the current season.

Release Date and Episode Details

NBC’s schedule places “Arcana” on Thursday, October 29. Episode guides show it sitting directly after “Anonymity,” which is the 597th episode overall and comes after a second installment titled “Midway.” That second episode, according to the same coverage, follows Curry as she investigates a boy’s disappearance from a carnival.

Because the episode guides show a new entry each week, the series appears to be airing without a scheduled break in the near term. The fifth episode of the season is scheduled to air on November 5. The director of “Arcana” had not been announced at the time of writing.

The show remains under the guidance of showrunner Michele Fazekas. NBC confirmed the renewal in April. Filming for the new season began on July 22.

Air Time on NBC

New episodes air on NBC every Thursday at 9 p.m. That slot is Eastern time, as it was for the season return on October 8. Viewers in the Central time zone can tune in at 8 p.m.

The order of the night has changed. ‘SVU’ now leads the Thursday lineup ahead of the flagship drama, with new episodes of ‘Law & Order’ following at 10 p.m. That makes the squad’s hour the opening act of the franchise’s night on NBC.

Viewers should also know what the season is not planning. Fazekas revealed on October 1 that there are no plans for crossovers with ‘Law & Order’ this season, which keeps the focus on the squad’s own cases.

Where to Watch ‘SVU’ Online

The simplest route is the broadcast itself. New episodes air on the network, so anyone with an antenna or a cable package can watch at the scheduled time. Those who miss the live airing have a second option through streaming.

Peacock has been the online home for the series. During the previous season, an episode that streamed on Peacock after its NBC airing closed with a different final scene than the live broadcast. Viewers who care about that kind of difference may want to note which version they are watching.

Viewers outside the United States have their own routes. In Canada, the series can be watched on Citytv. In the United Kingdom, the previous season is available on NOW, and the new season is expected to stream there after its NBC debut.

Preview of “Arcana”

The official description centers on an unusual witness. A clairvoyant’s account of a nighttime assault raises more questions than it answers, and Curry has to set aside her skepticism to find the truth. The squad’s investigation then uncovers a long buried secret that has haunted one family for generations.

Curry is played by Aimé Donna Kelly, who stars alongside Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Peter Scanavino, Kevin Kane and Kelli Giddish. Corey Cott is also listed among the season’s stars. Ice-T has said Fin will appear in every episode this season.

The episode arrives as the season builds toward its landmark hour. TVLine confirmed that Christopher Meloni will return as Elliot Stabler for the 600th episode. That milestone is reported to air on November 12. Hargitay has said she will direct it.

For now, the focus stays on a case that asks its most skeptical detective to take a seemingly supernatural claim seriously. Will Curry’s doubts about the clairvoyant hold up once the squad starts digging into that generational family secret in “Arcana”?
