‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Returns to the Fantastic Four’s Retro-Futuristic World in Striking New Look
When ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ arrived, it introduced audiences to a version of the Marvel universe unlike anything they had seen before. The film is set in a vibrant, retro-futuristic version of early 1960s New York in an alternate universe, Earth-828, where the Avengers never existed. Its designation is a nod to Jack Kirby’s birthday, August 28, honoring the Marvel icon who co-created the team alongside Stan Lee.
That world was always meant to be more than a one-off setting. A title card at the end of ‘First Steps’ confirmed the Fantastic Four would return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and its mid-credits scene jumped 4 years ahead to show Doctor Doom approaching a young Franklin Richards.
Now fans have a fresh glimpse at how that universe will look in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. A comparison shared by Marvel Multiverse pairs a shot from ‘First Steps’, showing a flying vehicle soaring past retro-styled skyscrapers, with a new aerial view of Ebbets Field from the upcoming film, stamped with the label “Earth: 828.”
The new image comes from Marvel’s special preview that aired during Game 1 of the World Series. In the spot, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards throws out the first pitch at Ebbets Field, the former home of the Brooklyn Dodgers, while modern MLB stars watch from the sidelines.

The visual consistency is striking. The preview matches the time period of ‘First Steps’, even showing New York Giants players in the background, and it suggests that in this alternate reality, the Dodgers never left Brooklyn.

The returning backdrop isn’t just eye candy. Footage shown at San Diego Comic-Con confirmed that Doctor Doom originates from Earth-828 rather than the main MCU timeline, tying him directly to the Fantastic Four’s home reality.
Kevin Feige has also hinted the setting will play a bigger role than some expected. Speaking to Marvel.com, the Marvel Studios boss indicated that Earth-828 will feature heavily in ‘Doomsday’ and even host some of Earth-616’s greatest heroes.
That fits the film’s broader premise. The MCU’s Earth-616, the Fantastic Four’s Earth-828 and the X-Men’s Earth-10005 are all set to collide, with the official synopsis teasing heroes from 3 distinct universes on a deadly collision course.

The renewed focus on Earth-828 has sent theorists into overdrive. One popular fan theory argues a large part of the movie may unfold there, keeping Doom rooted in his own mythology rather than flattening him into a generic crossover threat. Critics of that idea point out that spending too long on the Fantastic Four’s Earth could make the main MCU heroes feel like tourists in their own franchise.
Other rumors have gone even further, suggesting Earth-828 could be in serious danger once the multiverse starts breaking apart. Marvel hasn’t confirmed any of these claims, so fans should treat them with caution until the film arrives.
What’s clear is that the world itself has become a fan favorite. Earth-828 has been described as more utopian than the MCU’s Earth-616, and its 1960s-inspired design gives ‘Doomsday’ a look that sets it apart from previous Avengers films.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives in theaters on December 18, and every new glimpse seems to reinforce how central the Fantastic Four will be to the story. After the World Series preview drew mixed reactions for offering little new information, this Earth-828 comparison has given fans something concrete to pore over. Whether it ends up serving as a key battleground or a tragic casualty, the Fantastic Four’s retro-futuristic home is clearly ready for its close-up.
How important do you think Earth-828 will be in Avengers: Doomsday?
