Disney Sneaks a Fiery ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Cameo Into Its Hit ABC First Responder Drama
With less than 2 months until ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives on December 18, Marvel’s marketing machine seems to be everywhere at once. In just the past week, a baseball-themed preview aired during the World Series, fresh presale milestones landed, and a new TV spot put Thor’s rallying cry front and center. The campaign has turned the film into the kind of movie that shows up in the most unexpected places.
Disney has a few built-in advantages when it comes to spreading the word. ABC and Marvel Studios share the same parent company, which means the studio’s network television lineup doubles as a promotional runway. One of ABC’s biggest dramas has now become part of that strategy.
Now Marvel’s latest promo has turned up in primetime, and it doesn’t survive the episode. As Nexus Point News highlighted, Disney is promoting ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ in a new episode of ‘9-1-1’, where a billboard for the film is destroyed as a volcanic emergency tears through Los Angeles. The shot is brief, but it gave Marvel fans yet another sighting to talk about.
The moment comes from Season 10, Episode 2, titled “Fire in the Hole.” The episode carries over the high-stakes aftermath of a sinkhole that started spewing lava, with the 118 racing to evacuate news crews and onlookers gathered near the volcano in case it erupts again.

Reviewers enjoyed the touch. One recap singled out the destruction of the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ billboard as a little nod to the Disney company, alongside a ‘Dante’s Peak’ reference from Chimney.

This isn’t the film’s first appearance on the show. After the new season of ‘9-1-1’ premiered on ABC on October 15, a clip began circulating that showed a street scene on Hollywood Boulevard, with the El Capitan Theatre marquee prominently displaying ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ beside a Disney Store.
That placement wasn’t random either. The El Capitan is a Disney-run venue on Hollywood Boulevard, and it has already announced special Infinity Vision screenings of the film beginning Thursday, December 17. Fans treated both appearances like free pieces of marketing.

‘9-1-1’ is a natural fit for the kind of chaos Marvel likes to promote. The series moved from Fox to ABC starting with its seventh season and is known for catastrophic, large-scale emergencies. Its cast includes Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Ryan Guzman, Kenneth Choi, and Aisha Hinds.
Blowing up a billboard for a movie about a world-ending threat feels almost too fitting. In the new Marvel TV spot, Thor warns that Doom will tear the world apart and urges the heroes to stand together.

The ‘9-1-1′ cameo is part of a much broader push. Marvel has partnered with Williams F1 on Captain America and Thor-inspired race suits, while a Dunkin’ collaboration is set for November 4. Insiders have also reported more concession reveals, a promo during Diwali week, and an exclusive look on Disney+.

The strategy appears to be working. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has reportedly broken presale records, and the film is tracking for one of the biggest opening weekends in history. If Disney’s synergy continues, fans can probably expect even more surprise appearances across its programming before December.
