Prime Video releases ‘Drive The Pretenders’ worldwide on October 28, and the film is inspired by the Wattpad novel ‘Drive’ by Tamara Lush. It is a German language production from Bavaria Fiction in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios Germany. The ensemble blends a young lead pairing with a group of established German screen names.

The story follows a young race car mechanic who pretends to be engaged to the most scandalous racing star on the scene, officially to protect his reputation and secretly to earn her own chance behind the wheel. Sergej Moya directed ‘Drive The Pretenders’, with Chris Silber and Malina Nwabuonwor co-writing the screenplay. Here is a closer look at the principal cast members who bring that fake engagement to life.

Lisa-Marie Koroll

Lisa-Marie Koroll plays the mechanic Sarah Jenkins. Sarah works in a world dominated by men and dreams of sitting in the driver’s seat herself. That ambition is the engine behind her decision to go along with the staged engagement.

Koroll is a 28 year old German actress who started as a child in the ‘Bibi & Tina’ franchise. Her screen debut came in 2005 in the television series ‘Familie Dr. Kleist’, where she appeared from the second season through the final one.

She landed the title role of Tina Martin in the cinematic adaptations of the ‘Bibi & Tina’ audio dramas, and the first film reached theaters in March 2014. She also published a self help book in 2017 and took a leading role in the series ‘Wir sind jetzt’ in 2019. Her new role places her in a very different genre from the family films that made her name.

Amin Baahmed

Amin Baahmed plays the racing star Dante Annunziata. Dante is a former Formula 1 standout who was thrown off course by the fatal accident of his sister and has since made headlines mostly for his escapades. His management hires Sarah as his fiancée to repair his battered image.

Baahmed is a German actor, dancer, model and journalist who was born in Ottersberg in 1998 and grew up in Bremen. His earlier credits include the feature film ‘Kundschafter des Friedens 2’ and the title role in the short film ‘Petja’.

This project marks his first leading role. When Imagine Magazine asked how he reacted to learning he had won the part, Baahmed answered simply with “Tearing up.” The response suggests how much the opportunity meant to a performer still early in his screen career.

Mišel Matičević

Mišel Matičević is one of several additional cast members announced alongside the two leads. He was born in West Berlin in 1970 and is a German actor of Croatian descent. His arrival adds seasoned screen weight to a cast otherwise led by younger performers.

His first leading role came in ‘Lost Killers’ in 2000, which earned him an acting award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival. He later won the Best Actor Award at the Deutsche Fernsehpreis in 2008.

He played the manager Ion Tiriac in the Boris Becker biopic ‘Der Rebell’, and he returned as the criminal Trojan in ‘Scorched Earth’, which premiered in the Berlinale Panorama section. He has also played Curt Prank in ‘Oktoberfest’. That range of crime dramas and period pieces gives the ensemble a veteran presence.

Jeanette Hain

Jeanette Hain also appears among the additional cast announced by Bavaria Fiction. She was born in Munich in 1969 and has appeared in more than 90 film and television productions since 1990. Few names in the supporting lineup carry a longer résumé.

Hain first enrolled in a directing program, but director Sherry Hormann discovered her as an actress and cast her in the lead of the television film ‘Die Cellistin’ in 1998. She later won the Golden Nymph at the Monte Carlo Television Festival for the television production ‘Die Frau des Architekten’.

International audiences may know her best from ‘The Reader’, where she appeared opposite Ralph Fiennes. German viewers can also point to her role in ‘Luden’. With names like Hain and Matičević supporting Koroll and Baahmed, do you think the chemistry between Sarah and Dante will be strong enough to make the fake engagement in ‘Drive The Pretenders’ feel believable?
