Few superhero sequels have faced as long a road as ‘The Batman Part II’. Four years after Robert Pattinson debuted as the Caped Crusader, cameras finally rolled this year on Matt Reeves’ follow-up, with production based in London and a release date set for February 18, 2028.

Then came an unexpected pause. On October 5, Warner Bros. announced that filming had been temporarily halted so Reeves could focus on a family matter, with the studio stressing that he had the full support of DC Studios. Shortly after, Steven Soderbergh stepped forward to help complete principal photography.

Now the film’s star has shared his thoughts on the unusual situation. While promoting his latest release, ‘Primetime’, Pattinson spoke with GamesRadar+ about Soderbergh’s involvement, and he sounded genuinely grateful.

“I am so happy he’s come on to help Matt,” Pattinson told GamesRadar+. “It’s incredibly generous of him – and he’s doing it in the loveliest way. It’s completely selfless. I think Matt had put so much work into the script, and we’re almost done. So for someone to come in and say, ‘I just want to help Matt do it; I want to do it in conjunction with him and just get it to the edit.’ And to have someone who’s as talented as Steven doing it is great.”

Pattinson also offered an update on when cameras would roll again. “I think they’re in production already. And I’m starting in a couple of days,” he said. His comments suggest the production is moving quickly to wrap its final stretch. With the shoot nearly complete, Soderbergh’s role appears focused on carrying Reeves’ plans across the finish line rather than reshaping the film.

Despite some headlines describing the situation as an exit, Reeves has made it clear that he is not leaving the project. He posted on X to clarify that he remains attached to ‘The Batman Part II’ and thanked fans for their concern and well wishes.

An official statement also emphasized that Reeves and Soderbergh would work closely together with the cast and crew to fulfill Reeves’ vision. DC Studios co-chief James Gunn echoed that message on Threads, thanking Soderbergh and confirming that Reeves is still the director of the film and always will be.

Although Reeves may not be physically present on set for the remaining days of filming, he is expected to be involved in post-production. That collaboration lines up with Pattinson’s description of Soderbergh’s goal of getting the film to the edit.

Soderbergh’s decision to step in has been widely praised as an act of generosity between filmmakers. Pattinson’s remarks highlight how much the cast values protecting Reeves’ work after years of development on the sequel.

The arrangement is also notable given the 2 directors’ very different reputations behind the camera. Still, with the script finished and most of the footage already shot, the sequel appears to be in steady hands. For now, there’s no word on whether the brief pause will affect the film’s February 2028 release date. Warner Bros. has not announced any changes to the schedule.

With Pattinson heading back to set and Soderbergh guiding the final days of the shoot, fans can take comfort in knowing the sequel is nearly complete. Most importantly, Reeves remains at the center of the story he has spent years building.
