Marvel’s Multiverse Saga is heading toward a massive finish, and few elements have generated more excitement than the return of the X-Men. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is already bringing back several stars from 20th Century Fox’s mutant franchise, setting up a long-awaited collision between the MCU and the heroes who launched the modern superhero movie era.

Marvel has confirmed that Patrick Stewart returns as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer and Channing Tatum are also part of the mutant contingent, though not every fan favorite made the cut, with Shawn Ashmore and Halle Berry previously saying they hadn’t been asked to return.

That may not be the end of the story for the Fox mutants. As MCU Film News highlighted, insider DanielRPK is reporting that the original X-Men will return in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, the direct follow-up to ‘Doomsday’.

The report suggests the full original team could come back together in the Multiverse Saga finale. That would be a step beyond ‘Doomsday’, where the entire group is not expected to appear side by side. It also lines up with earlier reporting from insider Daniel Richtman, who claimed back in 2025 that the X-Men would carry over from ‘Doomsday’ into ‘Secret Wars’.

The rumor has sparked plenty of speculation about the characters’ fates. With many fans expecting ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ to claim the lives of numerous heroes and potentially reshape the MCU, a full reunion could serve as a send-off for the Fox-era team.

‘Secret Wars’ is expected to take place largely on Battleworld, a patchwork reality made up of characters and locations from across the multiverse. That setting would offer a natural stage for heroes from different franchises to share the screen.

The timing makes the possibility even more intriguing. Marvel is preparing its own fresh take on the mutants, with Jake Schreier’s ‘X-Men’ reboot scheduled for 2028. That film’s cast includes Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Inde Navarrette as Rogue. A grand farewell for the original team in ‘Secret Wars’ could clear the way for this new generation to take center stage.

There’s still plenty of uncertainty surrounding ‘Secret Wars’ itself. The film, again directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, currently holds a December 17, 2027 release date. However, Richtman has also reported that filming may not begin until February 2027, raising questions about whether that date will hold. Other casting rumors have also emerged, including reports that Jeremy Renner will return as Hawkeye.

As with any insider claim, fans should approach the report with caution. Marvel Studios has not confirmed which X-Men characters will appear in ‘Secret Wars’, and the studio has kept details about the film tightly under wraps.

Still, after years of waiting to see the original mutants fight alongside the Avengers, the idea of a full reunion has fans buzzing. If ‘Doomsday’ delivers on its promise, ‘Secret Wars’ could give the classic X-Men one last unforgettable moment. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives in theaters on December 18, giving fans their first look at how the Fox mutants fit into the MCU before the saga’s final chapter.
