Marvel’s global campaign for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has turned Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom into a physical presence around the world. As the Russo brothers’ multiverse crossover approaches, the studio and its partners have been building towering displays that let fans come face to face with the MCU’s newest villain.

The trend has stretched across Asia. Marvel recently unveiled a giant Doom statue in Shanghai, China, after previously showcasing a replica of the villain’s throne at an expo there, and a full-scale version of the throne was later installed in a Philippine mall where fans could sit for photos.

Now Japan has its own imposing tribute to the villain. 109 Cinemas Osaka Expo City has launched a special decoration event themed around the eve of ‘Doomsday’, with a statue of Doctor Doom making its grand debut in the theater’s lobby.

According to the cinema’s announcement on social media, the statue is on display for anyone to view. The theater also added a playful warning, asking visitors to refrain from touching Doom so as not to anger him.

Photos shared by the cinema show the villain in full regalia, wearing his signature metal mask beneath a dark green hood. The statue features a heavy chain draped across the chest, ornate armor, and gauntleted arms crossed in an imposing pose.

The display also highlights a notable detail for Japanese fans. The cinema confirmed that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will open in Japan on Thursday, December 18, the same day as its U.S. release.

That simultaneous launch marks a shift from past MCU entries, which have sometimes seen their Japanese releases pushed back by weeks. For fans in the region, it means they won’t have to wait or dodge spoilers while the rest of the world watches the film.

This isn’t the first ‘Doomsday’ activation in Japanese theaters. Earlier this year, a limited-time lobby display featuring large-scale banners and standees appeared in cinemas across the country, timed to build excitement as ticket sales ramped up.

The Osaka statue takes that promotional push a step further. Rather than flat artwork, fans now have a three-dimensional Doom to photograph, and the cinema has encouraged visitors to snap plenty of pictures.

Marvel has made Doom the face of the film’s marketing since Downey’s casting was revealed. From countdown teasers set in his ominous throne room to themed popcorn buckets shaped like his hooded mask, the villain has dominated nearly every promotional beat.

The studio has even launched a Google Easter egg that shows Doom’s gauntlets reaching toward the logos of the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four and Black Panther. Each new display reinforces just how central the character will be to the story.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ brings together heroes from 3 distinct universes, setting them on a collision course against an existential threat. The film is billed as the beginning of the final chapter in Marvel’s Multiverse Saga.

With record-breaking presales in several markets and eye-catching installations popping up worldwide, anticipation continues to build. Fans in Osaka now have a perfect photo opportunity before the film arrives on December 18.
