‘Nobody Wants This’ Star Tovah Feldshuh Pushes Back on Adam Brody’s Gaza Comments
‘Nobody Wants This’ became one of Netflix’s breakout romantic comedies, pairing Kristen Bell’s podcaster Joanne with Adam Brody’s Rabbi Noah Roklov. Tovah Feldshuh rounded out the family dynamic as Bina Roklov, Noah’s formidable mother, in a series built around faith, family and cultural identity.
Off screen, however, the cast has found itself at the center of a very real debate. Last month, Brody made headlines during an interview with GQ when he addressed the Israel-Gaza war, a subject he said he had never discussed publicly before but that comes up often for him in private.
In that interview, Brody said he considers the situation in Gaza a genocide and expressed support for a free Palestine. He described the toll of the conflict as awful, saying it had taken too much death and misery and felt like it was reaching a breaking point.
His comments quickly drew strong reactions on both sides. Some social media users praised Brody, who is Jewish, for speaking out, while others criticized his choice of words. Now his on-screen mother has publicly disagreed with him.
Speaking to The New York Post on Sunday, Feldshuh, who is also Jewish, sharply criticized the accusation of genocide against the Jewish people, comparing it to tactics from Hitler’s playbook and arguing that it turns the victim into the perpetrator.
Feldshuh said such accusations make a particular difference to the Jewish community when they come from Jewish public figures. She also stressed her belief that the continued existence of the state of Israel is crucial to the democratic and free world.
The actress added that she sees the current political climate as an example of the horseshoe effect, arguing that socialism and antisemitism are converging. A representative for Brody did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Despite her strong views, Feldshuh made clear she has no plans to bring the disagreement to work. She explained that if political differences arise on set, she’ll simply switch channels and do her job.

Feldshuh said her role, both as Bina and as herself, is to love the people she works with and be kind. Earlier this week, she also appeared on Jonathan Harounoff’s ‘UNscripted’ podcast, where she criticized people with large followings who describe Israel’s military actions as genocide, though she did not name Brody directly.
Feldshuh isn’t the only person connected to the series to respond. Creator Erin Foster has said she loves Brody but disagrees with him, adding that it’s okay for them to hold different views.
A rabbi who consulted on the show also criticized Brody’s remarks, calling them ignorant in comments reported by TheWrap. Other critics objected to what they viewed as a flippant use of the word genocide.
The exchange reflects the broader, deeply contested debate surrounding the conflict. Brody’s supporters argue he is speaking out on humanitarian grounds, while critics like Feldshuh contend that the genocide label is inaccurate and harmful to the Jewish community.

Neither Brody nor Netflix has issued further public statements on the matter. For now, the cast appears to be navigating their disagreements while continuing to work together. Feldshuh, whose recent credits include ‘The Walking Dead’ and the 2023 Broadway revival of ‘Funny Girl’, has made clear that her affection for her colleagues remains, even when their views diverge.
How should cast members handle major political disagreements while working together on a show like Nobody Wants This?
