‘NCIS’ Season 24 Episode 4 Recap and Ending Explained: Tony Reconnects With Tali as a Game Show Murder Unravels

This ‘NCIS’ recap and ending explained covers the episode titled “Like and Subscribe,” which aired on CBS on October 27. The hour was directed by Tawnia McKiernan and written by Sydney Mitchel and Amy Rutberg. Spoilers follow for the full episode.

The official setup describes a sailor moonlighting as a contestant on an online game show who turns up murdered, with the team learning his death has nothing to do with the prize money. The same synopsis also promises that Tony faces a threat far more intimidating than any killer. That pairing gives the episode its shape, a procedural puzzle on one side and a parenting problem on the other.

The Game Show Murder at the Center of the Case

The team is called to the woods, where a man’s body has been discovered and Jimmy’s first exam suggests he was killed with an axe. The victim is identified as Petty Officer First Class Mark Brogan, who worked in IT. His car holds a briefcase with about $50k in cash, though Kasie soon reveals that most of it is counterfeit.

The money points toward shady business, especially since Mark has a sick son in cancer treatment and mounting medical bills. His wife pushes back on that theory, and she tells McGee to focus on finding her husband’s killer instead of making him out to be the bad guy. A superhero costume under his clothes, one belonging to the Greatest American Hero, adds another layer to the mystery.

The trail leads to a stage set when Parker and Torres hear a scream during a stakeout and the team stumbles onto the set of a ‘Squid Game’ style show. Host Jordan Jackpot confirms that Mark ate a scorpion on the show, and the legal counsel explains that contestants sign NDAs, which is why Mark never told his wife where the money came from. Torres then finds that one of the axes from an axe throwing set on the game is missing, and Jimmy confirms it is the murder weapon.

How Tony and Tali Drive the Emotional Story

The personal thread opens early, when Tony pulls Knight aside to help with a personal matter. Tali used to call and text him every night when she first arrived at boarding school, but now she is ghosting him. Knight offers a calmer reading, suggesting she has simply made friends and is enjoying school.

Tony tries to meet that distance with generosity. He invites Tali and her friends to Washington for the weekend and arranges a VIP tour of the Smithsonian. TV Fanatic’s review singled out the choice to confide in Knight, noting that she can offer insight into a teenage girl’s perspective that Palmer or McGee cannot.

The case then undoes his plan. Jackpot releases a video claiming NCIS broke into his headquarters and uses the raid as marketing for the season. Tali is upset that her dad’s boss is trying to shut down her favorite YouTuber, so she cancels the trip and ices him out again.

Jackpot’s Choice App and the Russian Developer Problem

The investigation shifts when McGee reads the contracts. Every contestant must communicate exclusively through an app, and that app is private and invite only. Tony’s solution is a clever piece of misdirection.

He meets Jackpot, who films a video clearing NCIS, and Tony asks him to air drop it. Jimmy and Kasie initially worry he is chasing brownie points with his daughter. In fact the video was for PR purposes and the air drop was a ploy to obtain Jackpot’s authorization token, which gives them access to the app.

Inside the app, Kasie finds a user called The Hammer, and the trail ends at the show’s lawyer, Chelsea. The app, called Jackpot’s Choice, was built by Russian developers and posed a national security threat, and Chelsea had hired Mark to fix a bug in it. She insists she did not know who built it, and says Mark was trying to save the company rather than expose it.

Ending Explained and the Nathan Reveal

A video from Mark’s computer leads the team to Jackpot’s office, where they find a secret safe and tell Jackpot to open it or become their prime suspect. Inside is an old video showing that Jordan’s friend Nathan was the one who came up with the concept for the show. The killer is Nathan, and the motive is exclusion rather than money.

When the app was sold, Nathan was set to be cut out entirely, and he recalls that Jordan never called him when his mother died. Nathan killed Mark to get the video and show the world Jackpot’s real face. TV Fanatic was less impressed by the mystery, with its reviewer noting that the culprit was exactly who you would expect, the first person introduced on the show.

Jordan’s arc closes with some accountability. He chooses not to launch the app and sets up a fund for contestants who were wronged, then takes Mark’s place as the superhero at the hospital. Soap Central’s recap adds that he returns the full prize money to Mark’s family.

The final beat belongs to Tony. He tells Knight he has sorted things out with Tali and that they found a unique way to stay in touch without text. The show keeps that method private, so what do you think Tony and Tali have settled on, and does it say something about how he will balance the director’s chair with fatherhood?
