‘Boston Blue’ Season 2 Episode 4 Recap and Ending Explained: A Shark Mystery, a Wrongful Conviction and Danny’s First Day as Sergeant

The CBS drama aired “Everything Right Can Still Be Wrong” on Friday, October 30, with a 10 p.m. Eastern start. The hour opened when human remains were found inside a great white shark, which sent Danny and Lena hunting for a killer. It is an unusual hook even for a franchise that has built its name on tidy weekly cases.

This ‘Boston Blue’ recap walks through the shark investigation, the conclusion of the murder plot, and the quieter storylines that ran alongside it. Spoilers follow for everything that happened on screen. The ending explained section covers who was responsible and how Danny’s first stretch as a sergeant fits into the larger story.

‘Boston Blue’ Recap of the Great White Shark Mystery

Sean and Jonah responded to a disturbance call involving fishermen who had caught a great white shark, a protected species, while an activist argued with them on the dock. When the activist stabbed the carcass, a human arm fell out of the shark’s stomach.

The detectives were called in, and Lena had a serious problem with the assignment because she hates sharks after seeing ‘Jaws’. She tried to pass the case to someone else, but Danny refused to give it up.

The victim turned out to be a marine biologist who ran a shark sanctuary with his family and was pushing a bill to protect great whites. That bill had irritated a number of people, which gave the detectives a crowded list of suspects.

The activist, who swims with sharks to build her online following, disagreed with the biologist on the bill and on turning sharks into content. She also admitted their public arguments brought traffic to her webpage and made her richer.

Ending Explained as the Killer Is Revealed

A research intern became the first major lead after she covered up that the biologist had taken a boat out. She believed she had killed him by pushing him overboard during an argument over a Harvard recommendation letter he refused to sign. The detectives found no blood anywhere and learned he had been dismembered, so she was not the killer.

Attention then turned to the fishermen, who had a motive because the bill threatened commercial fishing. The detectives attended a council meeting, where it emerged that the activist was sleeping with one of the fishermen, and the two were serving as each other’s alibis. Someone had still taken her boat out on the water, and that person was her camera operator, Dylan.

Dylan believed her story about saving the sharks and never realized it was a cash grab. He killed to prove his love to her, though the recap makes clear it was not real love, and Danny and Lena arrested him. That resolution places the blame on a devoted bystander rather than on the loudest suspects in the room.

Not every viewer found the case convincing. One reviewer called the main case underwhelming and said it went over the top, especially after a stronger previous outing.

Danny Reagan Promotion and Sergeant Training

Danny spent his morning in an HR session for sergeants, where the instructor told attendees not to confuse friendship with work. He worried about having to hold Lena accountable the way he had already corrected another officer.

TV Fanatic noted that Danny finally started working as a sergeant, but aside from a running joke about HR disliking jokes, little seemed to change. That fits a promotion that was introduced in the premiere as a career-defining offer.

By the end of the hour Danny had stopped repeating HR talking points and was joking with Lena again. The same review observed that he got past his fear of offending her. The partnership survives its first test, though the show leaves open how long the status quo can hold.

Sarah Silver Reopens a Wrongful Conviction Case

Sarah revisited an old case in which a man pleaded guilty to a rape he did not commit. He feared a longer sentence and had a poor lawyer, so he accepted ten years rather than risk thirty.

When the man came up for parole, Mae told Sarah he had once been offered a chance to go home if he readmitted his guilt, and he said no. Sarah reinvestigated and found the real culprit. She could not charge him for the crime the man served time on, but she did get him on others, and the man was released.

The case also led to new rules, since the real offender went free earlier because police were not sharing information or consistently testing rape kits. Sarah and Mae are now working together to prevent a repeat. TV Fanatic called it the most interesting storyline of the episode while noting it had the least screen time.

Sean and Jonah, meanwhile, caught a wanted fugitive after helping two feuding neighbors reconcile. The next episode, titled “Blood Diamonds,” airs November 6 and brings Will Estes back as Jamie Reagan. Jamie and Danny get drawn into a diamond heist linked to a violent family feud. With Sarah’s rape kit reforms barely getting room to breathe next to a camera operator killing for a shark influencer, would you have traded some of the shark spectacle for more of that fight, and which storyline should the Reagan brothers’ reunion lean on as it takes over the spotlight?
