A Giant Doctor Doom Statue Takes His Throne in Japan as ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Hype Grows
Doctor Doom is turning up all over the world ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Marvel has placed statues and displays of Robert Downey Jr.’s villain in Shanghai, the Philippines, Argentina, and the United States, turning the Latverian ruler into one of the most visible faces of the holiday movie season.
Japan has been one of the busiest stops on that tour. Earlier this season, a Doom statue with crossed arms appeared in the lobby of 109 Cinemas Osaka Expo City as part of a decoration event themed around the eve of “Doomsday,” with fans invited to look but playfully asked not to touch.
Now an even bigger display has appeared in the country. Photos shared online by fan accounts show a massive Doctor Doom statue seated on a towering throne outside a modern building in Japan.
The statue shows Doom in his dark hood and cloak, with a silver mask, armored gauntlets, and round green-glowing medallions on his chest. He sits back on a tall green throne with ornate detailing, resting his metal hands on the armrests in a regal pose.

The display stands on a wide, stepped white platform with the Marvel Studios logo at its base. Comic Basics reported that the exact location hasn’t been confirmed, and the statue’s measurements haven’t been released.
One of the photos makes the size easy to appreciate. A visitor in a bright green Doom-style cape stands at the statue’s feet holding a Doom mask, and they reach only about the height of the villain’s knee.

The image has quickly become a hit with fans online. It shows just how far Marvel is willing to go to make Doom feel larger than life before the film arrives. Japanese audiences won’t have to wait long to see the real thing. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in Japan on Thursday, December 18, the same day as its US release, with Walt Disney Japan handling distribution.
Marvel kept that date even though Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three’ opens the same day. Some other markets will get the film even earlier, with Argentina opening on December 16.

The Japanese campaign has included more than statues. Marvel announced at a “Hero’s Day” event in Tokyo that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ would return to Japanese theaters before ‘Doomsday’, and new faction posters drew attention for showing the X-Men logo alongside the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and Wakandan characters.
Fans who want their own Doom on display have plenty of options. Iron Studios offers a seated Doctor Doom on Throne statue at 1/10 scale, standing about 8.8 inches tall and priced at $249.99.

For bigger collectors, Iron Studios and Sideshow have also announced a quarter-scale Doom statue about 68 centimeters tall. Hot Toys has revealed its own detailed figure, adding to the long list of merchandise built around Downey’s villain.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ brings together heroes from across the multiverse to face Doom. With the final trailer expected in mid-November, the studio’s promotional push is only likely to grow. For now, this giant throne gives fans in Japan one of the most striking Doom displays yet. If Marvel’s goal was to make the villain impossible to ignore, it appears to be working.
