Thor Transforms Into Steve Rogers Wielding Mjölnir in Seoul’s Dazzling ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Drone Show
Seoul has become one of the most spectacular stages for Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ campaign. On Halloween night, the city closed out its year of Han River drone shows with a special Marvel edition over Ttukseom Hangang Park, turning the night sky into a giant canvas of superheroes.
The “Marvel Special” show, staged with The Walt Disney Company Korea, used a record 2,000 drones and ran for 15 minutes starting at 8:30 p.m. Formations were synchronized to music, with sound provided through a partnership with HARMAN International and JBL Professional.
One sequence quickly stood out online. A clip shared by DiscussingFilm shows a drone formation of Thor, with his hammer raised over one shoulder and his red cape flowing, transforming into Steve Rogers wielding Mjölnir.
In the footage, the hero’s hair and beard glow in white and blue light against the Seoul skyline, while the hammer hangs above the city in a bright white outline. The clip has passed 600,000 views on X, making it one of the most shared moments of the night.

The transition mirrors a reveal from the film’s promotional footage. The new trailer shows Steve reuniting with Thor and proving he is still worthy of the hammer, and earlier official promo art showed a bearded, long-haired Steve wielding Mjölnir with lightning behind him.

Mjölnir has long been a symbol of worthiness in the MCU. In ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, the team famously failed to lift it, and in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, Steve stunned audiences by wielding it against Thanos.
Chris Evans hasn’t played Steve in an MCU film since ‘Endgame’, when the character passed his shield to Sam Wilson. His return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has been one of the film’s biggest talking points, with the first teaser showing Steve on a motorcycle and later holding a baby.

The Thor sequence wasn’t the only memorable moment. The show also featured an enormous Thanos holding his Infinity Gauntlet, which morphed into Iron Man as Robert Downey Jr.’s face took shape in the drones.
That formation then shifted into Doctor Doom, linking Downey’s iconic Tony Stark role with his new turn as the Latverian villain. The transition was widely shared on social media, with one fan calling it an incredible way to celebrate Marvel’s past while teasing its future.
Korean reports said Doctor Strange also appeared alongside other Marvel characters and scenes from the films. Before the show, fans could visit a photo zone themed around Doom’s throne and stained-glass imagery, along with a costume parade and event booths.

The Han River drone series has grown quickly since it began in 2023. According to The Korea Times, the 7 shows held through early October drew about 197,000 spectators, averaging around 28,000 per show, up from 11,000 when the series started.
Korea has strong ties to the Avengers franchise. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ drew 13.97 million admissions in the country, and Disney Korea has also hosted events such as Marvel Run Korea in Gangwon as part of its ‘Doomsday’ push.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in South Korea on December 16, 2 days ahead of its December 18 release in North America. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film brings together the Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four against Downey’s Doom.
With displays, parades and statues appearing around the world, Marvel’s promotion keeps getting bigger as release day nears. Seoul’s sky-high tribute to Steve and Mjölnir may be one of its most striking moments yet.
