Gambit and H.E.R.B.I.E. Make an Unlikely Team in Dunkin’s New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Commercial
Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ marketing has taken over everything from wrestling rings to fast-food counters. With the film opening in theaters on December 18, brand partners have been finding creative ways to bring Marvel’s heroes into everyday life.
Dunkin’ has been one of the most active. On November 4, the chain launched its ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ menu at participating U.S. locations, along with a range of collectibles inspired by the film’s heroes and its villain, Doctor Doom.
Now the campaign has its first big commercial, and it features a duo nobody saw coming. As DiscussingFilm shared, Gambit and H.E.R.B.I.E. star in a new Dunkin’ commercial for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
Channing Tatum reprises his role as Gambit alongside H.E.R.B.I.E., the robotic companion from ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’. The 30-second spot, titled “MUNCHKIN Incursion,” closes with Gambit telling viewers, “Doomsday is here, mon ami.”
In the ad, Gambit reaches for an Iced Captain’ccino while H.E.R.B.I.E. arrives with a plate of Doomsday and Avenging MUNCHKINS donut hole treats. The robot also explains the film’s plot in robot-speak as worlds from across the multiverse collide.

The commercial’s title is a clever nod to the film’s story. Incursions, collisions between universes, are expected to play a major role in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and Marvel has teased them in posters showing colliding Earths.
The Dunkin’ spot, set in a diner, turns that concept into a joke rather than a plot clue. Pairing an X-Men hero with a Fantastic Four robot also reflects the film’s crossover of different Marvel worlds.

Many viewers quickly noticed how Gambit sounded. Tatum’s Cajun delivery is still clearly there, but it’s noticeably easier to understand than his rapid-fire performance in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’.
That change was deliberate in the past film’s case, since the heavy accent was part of the joke. Tatum told Variety last year that he wouldn’t go full Cajun in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, so the commercial may offer a preview of his updated take.
Dunkin’ sees the campaign as a way to connect with Marvel’s passionate fan base. Chief marketing officer Jill Nelson said fans have a deep connection to these characters and stories, according to Dunkin’s announcement.
Holly Frank, Marvel Studios’ vice president of global partnerships, said the spot plays on the film’s high stakes with Gambit and H.E.R.B.I.E. Tatum has also said he knew right away the idea would be hilarious.

The commercial promotes a lineup full of Marvel touches. Drinks include the Iced Captain’ccino, the Clobbered Cloud Latte inspired by The Thing, the Wakandan Daydream Refresher, the Optic Blast Lemonade, Doom’s Orders Energy, and the Doom Cloud Latte.
The Doomsday Donut brings back the Brownie Batter Donut with green and chocolate sprinkles, while the Avenging Donut is filled with cotton candy. Collectibles include a Doctor Doom MUNCHKINS tin for $14.99 and themed tumblers for $24.99.

Dunkin’ is also turning several locations into Marvel destinations. Fantastic Four and X-Men-themed restaurants open in Los Angeles and Chicago on November 17, followed by Avengers and Doctor Doom-themed locations in New York City and Boston on November 18. Those takeovers will run into early December, ending shortly before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives in theaters.
What do you think of Gambit and H.E.R.B.I.E. teaming up in Dunkin's Avengers: Doomsday commercial?
