David Harbour Confirms Frankenstein’s Return in ‘Creature Commandos’ and Teases Crazy New Arcs
James Gunn’s DCU kicked off with an unusual crew of monsters. ‘Creature Commandos’, the R-rated animated series that launched DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, premiered on Max in December 2024 and followed a black ops team of misfits assembled by Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.
One of the season’s standouts was David Harbour’s Eric Frankenstein, who spent much of the story trying to win over Indira Varma’s The Bride. He appeared to die at the end of Season 1, but a post-credits scene confirmed that he is still alive in the DCU.
Now Harbour has confirmed that Frankenstein is coming back. Speaking with ComicBook.com while promoting ‘Violent Night 2’, he said he has already recorded at least some of his voiceover for the new episodes of ‘Creature Commandos’ Season 2.
“It’s great. I just think James’ writing is just so (good), and he really loves those characters,” Harbour told ComicBook.com. He added, “Some of them have some really crazy arcs this season.”
The new season is set to premiere in 2027. Gunn said on Threads that it won’t arrive long after ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’, which hits theaters on July 9, 2027, and that more projects would follow shortly after.
Based on that answer, Bleeding Cool expects Season 2 to debut in the second half of 2027. If it lands in December, there would be about 3 years between seasons, though no official date has been announced.

Season 2 was announced on December 23, 2024, shortly after the first season debuted. In January, Gunn said on Threads that the new season was in production and would be released once animation was finished.
Showrunner Dean Lorey revealed in an Instagram post that the season premiere is titled “Starry Night”. Season 1 ended with the team reformed under a new leader, The Bride, who is asked to lead a new group from a converted area of Belle Reve.

Several familiar faces are expected back alongside Harbour. Bleeding Cool lists Varma as The Bride, Davis as Waller, Steve Agee as Economos, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus, and Sean Gunn as both Weasel and the upgraded G.I. Robot.
King Shark is also returning, with Diedrich Bader voicing the character. Lorey has said the Season 1 end-credits lineup will be at least somewhat accurate for the new season, which reportedly introduces 2 new monsters, the vampiric Nosferata and the mummy-like Khalis.

Harbour has plenty on his plate beyond the DCU. He’s returning as Santa in ‘Violent Night 2’ and will also appear in the MCU’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ this December. His Frankenstein return also adds an interesting wrinkle to the DCU’s wider plans. Clayface, who appeared in Season 1, has since moved into live action with Tom Hrys Harries in DC Studios’ ‘Clayface’, and Gunn has said other Creature Commandos could show up in live-action projects too.

The first season won over critics and fans, helping to set the tone for Gunn’s new DC universe. With Harbour praising Gunn’s writing and teasing wild character arcs, the next chapter looks set to push the monster squad even further. For now, fans will have to wait for an official premiere date. But with Harbour already back in the recording booth, Frankenstein’s return to the team is clearly on its way.
