For years, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ has stood as the gold standard for Marvel Studios at the global box office. The 2019 team-up became the benchmark that every MCU release was measured against.

This year, Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ started chipping away at that legacy almost immediately. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film opened in US theaters on July 31 and, according to Deadline, broke ‘Endgame’s all-time opening record.

Now the wall-crawler has claimed another milestone. As Cosmic Marvel reported, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has passed ‘Avengers: Endgame’ to become the highest-grossing MCU film of all time outside China.

According to the post, the film has earned $2.288 billion excluding China. ‘Endgame’ made $2.287 billion outside China, a total that includes its re-release. The distinction matters because China is a major market for Hollywood blockbusters. According to The Numbers, ‘Brand New Day’ has earned around $235 million in China, part of a worldwide total of roughly $2.52 billion.

The film made a strong start there too. Artisan Gateway figures reported by The Express Tribune show it opened with about $68.1 million over its first 3 days in China and $121.3 million over 5 days, including a $19 million IMAX haul described as the best IMAX opening weekend ever for a ‘Spider-Man’ film in the country.

At home, ‘Brand New Day’ opened to $360.1 million from 4,487 theaters, according to The Numbers. It went on to hold the No. 1 spot for its first 6 weekends and has now earned about $958.9 million domestically.

Variety reported that the film crossed $1 billion worldwide in just 6 days. Internationally, its biggest markets after China include the UK at about $134.1 million and Mexico at about $91.4 million. The film is now the highest-grossing ‘Spider-Man’ movie ever and the biggest release of 2026. It also sits 4th on the list of the highest-grossing films of all time worldwide.

With a reported production budget of $225 million, the film has earned more than 11 times its cost, according to The Numbers. That return makes it one of Marvel’s most profitable releases in recent memory.

Holland is joined by Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds and Marisa Tomei as May Parker. The film also features Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.

Sadie Sink plays Jean Grey, while Tramell Tillman joins as Bill Metzger. Michael Mando also returns as Mac Gargan, also known as Scorpion. The milestone sets the stage for Marvel’s next big release. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens on December 18, with advance premium-format sales already passing $50 million by early September.

Whether the next Avengers film can reclaim the top spot remains to be seen. For now, Spider-Man sits ahead of ‘Endgame’ outside China.

Do you think Avengers: Doomsday can reclaim Marvel's box office crown from Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
