‘Yellowjackets’ fans have spent years wondering what would happen if the girls ever made it out of the woods, and the show’s fourth season is finally ready to answer. Showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson originally planned the series for 5 seasons, but they shifted it to 4.

The decision came at the show’s creative peak. ‘Yellowjackets’ was renewed on May 20, more than a month after the Season 3 finale, which was the show’s most-watched episode ever according to Paramount+, while Season 3 was also its most-watched season. In their announcement, the creators said they believed the story had told them it wanted to end, and that their job was to listen.

With the end in sight, Paramount+ has dropped a new look at the final chapter ahead of its November 20 premiere. One of the fresh images places the teen survivors around a school cafeteria table, lunch trays and soda cans in front of them, staring at something just out of frame, while another shows a bundled-up character back in the snow.

That cafeteria image fits the season’s central idea perfectly. The final season will focus on what happened to the high school soccer team after they were rescued and returned to New Jersey, along with the fallout of their long-held secrets in the present day.

The new trailer suggests the homecoming won’t be easy. It reveals that the stranded team has finally been rescued, with many of them struggling to fit back into society, and although the surviving students are treated like heroes, they seem unsure about returning. The tension carries over into the adult timeline, where the characters are splintered apart.

The footage also comes with a creepy twist. The trailer reveals a ghost from the wilderness returning to haunt the survivors. Fittingly, it’s all set to Alanis Morissette’s ‘Ironic’. The final season has a lot of loose ends to tie up. It follows a host of revelations, including the identity of “Pit Girl” and who was responsible for killing Lottie in the present day, from the Season 3 finale.

The marketing has leaned into that sense of a reckoning from the start. Paramount+ released the first teaser in August, billing the season as “The Final Reckoning,” with the footage playing out on a TV set showing breaking news coverage, including MTV’s Kurt Loder, reporting that search and rescue teams in Canada have found the Yellowjackets.

The core ensemble is back for one last run. Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress and Hilary Swank lead the adult cast, while the teenage timeline includes Sophie Nélisse as Teen Shauna, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Teen Tai, Sophie Thatcher as Teen Natalie, Samantha Hanratty as Teen Misty, Courtney Eaton as Teen Lottie and Liv Hewson as Teen Van.

The guest list is also impressive. June Squibb, Elijah Wood, Molly Ringwald, Devon Sawa, Sam Braun and Dulé Hill all have guest roles. Promotional stills show Molly Ringwald as Vicky Palmer alongside Liv Hewson’s Teen Van, and June Squibb as Geraldine with Christina Ricci’s Misty.

The end is almost here. ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 4 premieres November 20 on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan, with new episodes arriving weekly on Fridays. All 3 previous seasons are available there now, so there’s still time for a rewatch before the final reckoning begins.
