‘Absolute Batman’ Reveals Vampire-Inspired Costume in Shocking Origin Reveal!

‘Absolute Batman’ has slowly revealed the story behind how this version of Bruce Wayne decided to become Batman and start his fight against crime. In issue 4, this new origin story got quite the twist.
The issue kicks off with Bruce Wayne’s first days as Batman. After returning to Gotham from college, Bruce creates a costume inspired by vampires, complete with red glowing contacts, a voice changer, fake fangs, and sharp metal claws on his gloves.
He targets a gang called the Ten Thieves who are extorting people in Crime Alley, using hissing and screeching to scare them. After overpowering the gang and almost shooting their leader, Raff, Bruce remembers his earlier design ideas, realizing his plan to be intimidating might not be the best.
He decides against using violence and burns his costume and gun, understanding that fighting street criminals won’t solve Gotham’s problems. He decides to think on a larger scale.
Bruce decides to tackle a major source of crime in Gotham by shutting down the “Orange Blossom Special,” a smuggling route for illegal guns and drugs coming from Florida. This operation is run by the powerful Maroni and Falcone crime families, who are deeply connected in the city’s business world and even the police, making them nearly untouchable.
To stop a gun shipment, Bruce creates a new costume—still intimidating but less dramatic—and uses a remote-controlled jack to intercept the goods. While it feels like progress, it still doesn’t seem perfect to him. Bruce reflects on a design idea inspired by bats’ adaptability, which his father, Thomas, had once praised. His father shared a personal story about his desire to help others, which inspired Bruce to think beyond just defeating criminals.
Bruce goes on a journey across the country to figure out his next move. He remembers how he improved his design by blending the best parts of his previous ideas, making it lightweight and practical for people in need to use it without relying on authorities.
He also recalls a moment at Joe Chill’s sentencing where he expressed that the happiest day of his life was the day before his parents were murdered and that he hated Chill for taking that happiness away from him.
Fans were initially skeptical about the ‘Absolute Batman’ origin story and overall design, but the comic quickly amassed a loyal following and has been in the top 10 since it started releasing.
