Alan Ritchson Really Wants to Play Batman: “He’s Super-Smart. I Wanna Be That Guy”

Following the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the DC Universe (DCU) has officially taken over from the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Now, some of the most iconic characters in comic history are under the direction of Safran and Gunn. The DCU is set to kick off with the animated show ‘Creature Commandos.’ However, the live-action aspect of this cinematic universe will begin with the release of ‘Superman,’ which both Safran and Gunn consider to be the true start of the DCU. Several other projects are confirmed to be in development, including ‘The Authority,’ focusing on the team of the same name, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ starring Milly Alcock as DCU’s Supergirl, and ‘Paradise Lost,’ a TV show centered on Wonder Woman-related lore set on Themyscira.
While key roles like Superman, Lois Lane, and Supergirl have been cast, the identity of the live-action Batman in the DCU remains unknown.
According to a recent update, a casting call for the DCU’s Dark Knight will be issued soon. One actor who is actively campaigning for the role is Alan Ritchson. Ritchson recently spoke to the Hollywood Reporter, expressing his enthusiasm for the opportunity to portray Batman.
I would love to play Batman. There I said it okay. I’ll shout it from the rooftops: I wanna be Bruce Wayne. Here’s the thing about Batman. You know what his superpower is? Intelligence. Dude is the smartest superhero there is. Like, he’s inventive and he’s got all the gadgets, but he’s super-smart. I wanna be that guy, and also to have like a cave, with hypercars.
Ritchson’s take on Batman is intriguing, and let’s be honest, who hasn’t fantasized about owning a cave full of hypercars and getting to say “I’m Batman”? It would definitely be an experience worth having.
Ritchson is no newcomer to superhero roles. He made his acting debut as Arthur Curry, also known as Aquaman, in ‘Smallville’ (Yes, Aquaman did appear in Smallville, you just might not remember). Following his role as Aquaman, Ritchson portrayed Hank Hall, also known as Hawk, in ‘Titans,’ ‘Supergirl,’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow.’ He also recently disclosed that he missed out on the opportunity to play Thor in the MCU because he didn’t take the role seriously enough.
As mentioned earlier, Ritchson is a top pick among fans to portray the next Batman, and we hope that Gunn is taking note. Got something to share? Feel free to drop your thoughts in the comments below!
