Ampharos: Best Moveset, Weaknesses & Counters, Stats, and Evolution
The world of Pokémon has been a growing phenomenon since 1996, when the first pair of video games came out in stores. Today, there are almost 900 individual Pokémon identified by the PokéDex and in this article, we are going to tell you everything you need to know about one of them – Ampharos.
Ampharos is an Electric-type Pokémon first introduced in Generation II of the core video games. It is the second and final evolution of Mareep and Flaaffy, both introduced in Generation II as well; Ampharos can Mega Evolve into Mega Ampharos when exposed to the Ampharosite. It is weak only to Ground-type moves, and is super effective against Flying- and Water-type Pokémon. It is not immune to any moves.
In this article, we are going to tell you all the information you’ll need if you want to breed an Ampharos in any of the games. You’ll find out about its type, its powers, its strengths and weaknesses, its evolutions, and its moves. We’re going to focus on both the core games, as well as other popular video games based on the Pokémon franchise.
Best moveset
In the Pokémon GO videogame, the best moves for your Ampharos are Volt Switch and Zap Cannon if you’re battling Pokémon in Gyms. Namely, this moveset gives you the highest total DPS and is, likewise, the best moveset for PVP battles. The official description for Volt Switch reveals the following: “After making its attack, the user rushes back to switch places with a party Pokémon in waiting”; as for Zap Cannon, the attack is described as follows: “The user fires an electric blast like a cannon to inflict damage and cause paralysis.”
Weaknesses and Counters
As a pure Electric-type Pokémon, Ampharos is weak only against Grund-type moves, and is super effective against Flying- and Water-type Pokémon. It is not immune to any types of moves, and is resistant to Flying-, Steel-, Electric-type moves. It receives normal damage from Normal-, Fighting-, Poison-, Rock-, Bug-, Ghost-, Fire-, Water-, Grass-, Psychic-, Ice-, Dragon-, Dark-, Fairy-type moves.

Evolutions
Ampharos was first introduced in Generation II as the second and final evolution of Mareep. Mareep first evolves into Flaaffy, staring at Level 15, and then into Ampharos, starting at Level 30. Ampharos can also Mega Evolve into Mega Ampharos when exposed to the Ampharosite during battle.
In Pokémon GO, Ampharos is also obtained by first evolving Mareep into Flaaffy, for which you need 25 Mareep Candy, and after that, Flaaffy to Ampharos, for which you need 100 Mareep Candy. Mega Ampharos is also available in the game and is obtained by having 200 Ampharos Mega Candy, but only for the first time.
