There are a lot of different funny anime series in the world, but two of the funniest are actually from the same manga author named One, who has a knack for being able to create funny storylines in what seems like a shonen anime series. Of course, we are talking about One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100, who are both similar in the sense that they both have overpowered characters that don’t always take things seriously. So, are One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 in the same universe?

One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 are from different universes. While psychics exist in the world of One Punch Man, there was never an indication that there were many psychics in the world. Meanwhile, in Mob Psycho 100, the Hero Association and the superheroes, in general, don’t even exist.

While they may be from the same author, it is worth noting that both One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 happen in different universes. Otherwise, the fact that One Punch Man talks about world-breaking events means that the characters of Mob Psycho 100 should’ve been affected already. Now, let’s look at why these two anime don’t belong in the same universe.

What Is One Punch Man?

One Punch Man is set in a world where heroes exist and are working for the Hero Association, wherein the heroes are ranked based on how strong they are and how well they perform against the different villains that seek to destroy or take over the planet. The cities in the anime are often under attack, and that’s why it is up to the heroes to protect the common people while also making money.

Saitama enters the picture as a regular guy who was working a regular 9-to-5 job. However, an event in his life convinced him that he wanted to be a hero, and that was when he trained for an entire year. After training, he ends up becoming incredibly powerful to the point that he could defeat everything in one punch. And the funny part was that there was no proper explanation why he became so strong after training for one year.

Throughout One Punch Man, the planet is under constant threats from monsters and even aliens. However, despite being one of the few heroes that could actually defeat anything, Saitama remained a mystery to the people around him and even the Hero Association, which placed him at a low rank. As such, Saitama constantly had to defeat strong opponents throughout the anime while other heroes gained credit for his feats and achievements.

But Saitama’s main goal was to find an opponent that could challenge him because all of the opponents he had faced could be defeated in a single punch. As such, he aims to find an opponent that could give him the fight he has been longing for his entire life.

What Is Mob Psycho 100?

Mob Psycho 100 is set in a world where psychics exist but in small numbers. Some of these psychics are capable of incredible things, while some of them are actually quite weak. This is where Shigeo Kageyama, nicknamed Mob because he lacks a sense of presence, comes in as a regular student that works part-time with a fake psychic named Reigen (Mob doesn’t know he’s a fake).

Throughout most of the anime, Reigen takes advantage of Mob’s abilities as a true psychic but also acts as the boy’s mentor in life. Mob, however, is actually the most powerful psychic in the world and is capable of leveling cities with his psychic powers if he wanted to.

But the thing about Mob was that he didn’t want to use his powers unless he needed to do so. He just wants to live a normal high school teenager life. Nevertheless, the fact that there are evil espers all over the world taking advantage of other espers was what forced Mob to use his powers to protect his family and friends.

It is only when Mob is pushed to his very limit and wants to protect someone dear to him that he uses his psychic abilities to their full potential. And when he uses all of his powers, no other esper in the entire anime could even come close to what he could do.

Are One Punch Man And Mob Psycho 100 In The Same Universe?

As you can see, both One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 feature overpowered characters that were created by the same manga author nicknamed One. But while they have similar storylines and a similar author, does that mean that One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 belong in the same universe?

Actually, both One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 are in different universes. And while we do see some slight references between the two anime series (such as when a One Punch Man shirt can be seen in Mob Psycho 100), they are entirely different from one another.

For example, in Mob Psycho 100, there is no Hero Association or superheroes at all. The only superpowered beings in the world are the espers or the psychics, who mostly keep their identities hidden from the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, in One Punch Man, there are only a few psychics around. One of them is Tatsumaki, who works as one of the most powerful heroes under the Hero Association. Had there been a lot more psychics in One Punch Man, they would have also been superheroes as well.

As such, even though both One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 are from the same author, they are entirely different from one another and are from different universes that may or may not be related to one another.

Should One Punch Man And Mob Psycho 100 Do A Crossover?

At this point, it is tough to say whether or not One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 should do a crossover in the future. And that’s because of the fact that there seems to be only one room for one overpowered character.

It would be extremely tough to find a way for Saitama and Mob to coexist together in one single world, considering that they are both overpowered characters that are strong enough to take on every single bad guy in their respective universes.

As such, having them work together in a crossover would make it difficult for One to find a way to produce a good storyline that will make things tough for two overpowered characters to win rather quickly.

It’s already tough enough for One to create a storyline wherein Saitama can’t just swoop in at any given moment to win the day with a single punch. Including Mob in such a storyline would only make it even more impossible to create an intriguing story wherein Saitama and Mob actually have to work hard. That’s why we believe that there shouldn’t be a crossover even between One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100.
