A young fish named Oscar is found at the scene and he decides to take advantage of the situation and act as if this were true. But he will soon realize that this might have many serious consequences.

Why you should watch it: This is a lovely animated movie with a brilliant voicing cast, from Will Smith to Robert de Niro and Jack Black. It has a great soundtrack and an interesting story and it will be especially entertaining for the youngest ones.

Sea Fever (2019)

What it’s about: This mystery horror drama centers on a crew of six on an Irish trawler that enters the unknown waters which proves to be a huge mistake. Soon the crew members will begin to experience physical and psychological changes that will slowly drive them mad.

Open Water (2003)

What it’s about: This is a horror drama thriller about Susan and David, a couple on a Caribbean holiday who decide to spend the day on a scuba diving trip. But their day couldn’t have gone worse. After a miscount on the boat, they are left in the middle of the ocean, stranded and alone, and soon about to be threatened by a school of sharks starting to surround them.

Why you should watch it: This is not a movie full of special effects and scenes that will make you jump off your seat all the time. It is slow and suspenseful and it asks its viewers to think while watching, imagining themselves there and trying to figure out what is going on.

Two world’s leading shark experts, Dr. Mark Meekan and Dr. Mike Heithaus explain that these attacks happen more often than we would ever think. While listening about why these animals would turn on their own kinds, the viewers will learn about their body language, shark senses, etc.

Why you should watch it: Everyone who loves documentaries and especially ones about animals and is interested in sharks will enjoy this inventive and interesting 44 minutes long documentary.

Deep Blue Sea (1999)

What it’s about: A businessman decides to invest 200 million dollars into a special project to help fight Alzheimer’s disease. It is an underwater study connected with sharks that goes awry when the ambitious marine biologist Susan McAlester finds a way to enlarge shark brains to harvest the disease-battling enzymes. But the sharks become extremely intelligent and are not ready to be kept in cages and decide to break out and head to the open sea.

Why you should watch it: This is an intense and interesting shark movie directed by Renny Harlin, with Thomas Jane and Saffron Burrows in leading roles. It is adrenaline-packed and enjoyable enough, making it a pretty solid sci-fi shark movie. 

Shark Night (2011)

What it’s about: Sara welcomes her friends to her lake house for a weekend full of fun that will, unfortunately, turn into a night of terror. After one of them is attacked and they suspect a lunatic roaming around, they realize there are 15 different shark species hiding in the water, just waiting for their next victim. 

Why you should watch it: This is one of those movies that doesn’t really try to be serious and intelligent. It is for pure fun, this time with a shark topic told front the point of view of a group of friends who will find themselves in unimaginable situations If you enjoy those types of horrors, you might like this one, too.

The Shallows (2016)

What it’s about: Blake Lively plays Nancy who thought her surfing days will be a blast. And they start like that but soon end up in a nightmare. Surfing on a secluded beach, she finds herself stranded 200 yards from the shore, alone and unable to contact anyone. But the problems begin when she realizes that she is in the middle of a great white shark’s feeding ground.

Why you should watch it: This is a pretty good B-movie, with an interesting story, a great atmosphere, and a remarkable performance by Blake Lively. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, biting your nails all the time and hoping for Nancy to be brave enough to fight this dangerous creature away.

It is an adventure thriller about a killer shark who begins to terrorize the beach community around Cape Cod. Brody, Quint, and Cooper, the local sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old seaman are the ones who will have to try and capture the beast threatening the people in their town. 

Why you should watch it: Mostly thanks to the brilliant directing by Steven Spielberg and masterful performances by Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss, this movie has a place on the list of one of the most influential movies of all time. It has a good storyline and it is intense and suspenseful with excellent special effects and when we come to think that it was filmed in 1975, this makes even more sense. 

47 Meters Down (2017)

What it’s about: Mandy Moore and Claire Holt play Lisa and Kate, two sisters who decide to explore the deep blue sea. But they never expected to encounter a creature thirsty for blood as they found themselves 47 meters under the sea. While trying to get to the surface, they will slowly start losing oxygen, and finds themselves racing against time and fighting for their lives. 

Why you should watch it: This is not only a shark movie. It is also a very intense survival movie where the main protagonists have to think clearly and rationally in order to save themselves. Holt and Moore are brilliant in their roles and the overall atmosphere of the movie is very good.

The Journey to the South Pacific (2013)

What it’s about: This documentary takes us on a journey to the South Pacific where, among many different kinds of fish, we meet sharks, as well. We will learn a lot about these animals, as well as their sea neighbors, all told with a beautiful voice by the Oscar-winning Cate Blanchett.

The Meg (2018)

What it’s about: Naval Captain Jonas Taylor had to abort his mission in the recesses of the Mariana Trench five years ago. He also left half of his crew there, which led to great tragedy and cost him his career and marriage. No one believed him when he spoke about an enormous beast that caused the tragedy but when the same thing happens now he is the one who will accept a new mission and try to save everyone trapped at the bottom of the ocean.

Why you should watch it: This is not a bad movie and if you are a Jason Statham fan, you will probably enjoy it. The special effects are ok, the story itself very interesting and it might be a pleasant hour and a half watch for everyone who wants to have a good time.
