‘Black Clover’ Is Coming Back With a New Anime Series After Four Years, Trailer Revealed

After four years away, Black Clover is officially returning with a brand-new anime series. The big announcement was made at Anime Expo 2025 during Crunchyroll’s industry panel, and fans finally got confirmation that Asta’s journey isn’t over yet.

A trailer video and new visual were revealed, and Crunchyroll said it will stream the series when it premieres, though no release date has been shared.

This new anime comes after a long wait. The original Black Clover anime aired from 2017 to 2021 with a total of 170 episodes. It was made by Studio Pierrot and followed the story of Asta and Yuno, two boys raised together, aiming to become the Wizard King in a world where magic is everything. While Yuno was born with great magic, Asta had none, relying instead on a rare anti-magic power.

Since the series ended, there’s been a lot of talk about its return. Hype around the franchise picked up again after the 2023 movie Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, which was released in theaters in Japan and on Netflix globally. That film seemed to renew interest in the story and characters, especially as the manga moved from Weekly Shonen Jump to Jump Giga in December 2023.

At the panel, Crunchyroll shared a special message from Black Clover creator Yuki Tabata, who had this to say about the new anime:

“The production of the long-awaited new anime season of Black Clover has been confirmed! I’m beyond ecstatic going into the new anime season after the super-passionate movie that came out! Thanks to all of you, Black Clover is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! I definitely plan to keep this hype going!”

He also added: “I want fans from Japan and all around the world to enjoy the powered-up anime that’s going to be brought to you by the most awesome anime production staff! Thank you so much for supporting Black Clover!”

The original anime was well-received by fans, even though it started off with some criticism for being similar to other shounen series. Over time, though, many people felt it grew into something strong on its own. Viewers liked the action, story, and the way it treated its characters, especially the female ones, who were given important roles and real development. The animation also got better as the show went on, and several key fights were praised for their intensity and quality.

Back in 2020, Black Clover was actually the most-watched anime on Crunchyroll, with people from 87 countries and regions tuning in. It even made it into several “best of the decade” lists.

Right now, there’s no cast or staff info, and no release window either. But the return of Black Clover already has fans excited, and with the anime’s 10th anniversary happening this year, the timing couldn’t be better.
