All 4 Mayuri Kurotsuchi’s “Corpse Unit” Members in Bleach, Ranked by Strength

We all know that Mayuri Kurotsuchi is one of the strangest Bleach characters, but he is also a resident genius, a brilliant (and mad) scientist, and a great inventor. His intelligence was recognized even by Urahara, who is considered to be the smartest character in the series. Mayuri’s curiosity was, at times, unhealthy, but it did lead to some important breakthroughs and results, which is why the other characters mostly tolerated his work. One such example is his improvised “Corpse Unit,” which consisted of four revived Arrancar, seen during the Quincy Blood War.
The “Corpse Unit” was a gimmick name, as Mayuri himself admitted in the light novel, but he kept it, as the four Arrancar were kept alive and under watch by him after the war. In this article, we are going to tell you who these four resurrected Arrancar were and why they were called the “Corpse Unit”, and we are also going to rank the four members based on their powers and abilities, from weakest to strongest.
The “Corpse Unit” was a joke name, but Mayuri kept it even later
Going back to the Quincy Blood War, at one moment, Giselle Gewelle, the Sternritter “Z” – “The Zombie,” summoned a whole army of zombified Shinigami to fight Yumichika and Ikkaku, but at that moment, Mayuri Kurotsuchi arrived and presented his new allies, four resurrected Arrancar, and they were:
- Charlotte Chuhlhourne, a former Fraccion of Baraggan Louisenbairn, who was killed in Fake Karakura Town by Yumichika Ayasegawa.
- Cirucci Sanderwicci, a former Privaron Espada whom Uryu Ishida defeated and later killed by Rudbornn Chelute and his Exquias; her corpse was taken to Szayelapporo’s laboratory.
- Dordoni Alessandro Del Socaccio, a former Privaron Espada who was defeated by Icihgo and Nelliel in Las Noches and later killed by Rudbornn Chelute and his Exquias; his corpse was then taken to Szayelapporo’s laboratory.
- Luppi Antenor, the former Sexta Espada who had a very complex relationship with Grimmjow, as he took over his title; he was ultimately killed by Grimmjow himself after Orihime had restored his hand. His corpse was then taken to Szayelapporo’s laboratory.
We listed them and told you how they died because the fact that they were all dead when Mayuri recovered them is important; Mayuri said that he had even more of them stored in his laboratory, but these four were the only ones seen in the series. Mayuri managed to repair and modify their bodies, thereby securing their obedience, after which he revived them using an unknown method. Because of their nature, he named them his “Corpse Unit,” which is also a pun on the word “corps”; Mayuri himself admitted that the name was a joke, but he kept it nevertheless.
The four Arrancar were not mindless pawns. They were, in fact, fully sentient and autonomous in that aspect. Mayuri could not command them directly (i.e., they could disobey him), but he modified their bodies so that he could shock them or inflict pain on them whenever he wanted.
So, he secured their cooperation, but he was never completely in control of them. At the same time, the members of the “Corpse Unit” were both test subjects and hunting dogs, depending on what Mayuri had them do.
Also, we have to state that the three Sternritter – NaNaNa Najahkoop, Candice Catnipp, and Meninas McAllon – were not members of the “Corpse Unit”; they underwent a similar procedure and played a similar role, but Mayuri never considered them to be a part of the same group as the Arrancar. In fact, he himself explained that they were not really dead when he recovered them, like the Arrancar, but that they were quite close to being dead. So, Mayuri basically saved them and put them to use, although they never were “Corpse Unit” members because they were never corpses in the first place. NaNaNa is the only one left in Mayuri’s Division, as the two female Sternritter were set free.
The “Corpse Unit,” ranked by strength
In this section, we will rank the members of the “Corpse Unit” based on their strength, starting with the weakest and ending with the strongest on the list.
4. Cirucci Sanderwicci
There is no doubt that Cirucci is the weakest of the four, but as a former Espada, she was quite helpful against Quincy. Her speed is her forte, and Mayuri made good use of it in battle, but she is not as strong as the others.
3. Charlotte Chuhlhourne
Charlotte might be a Fraccion (i.e., a Numero), but he was quite strong; Baraggan wouldn’t have made him his Fraccion in any other case. We think that he is genuinely stronger than Cirucci, as he is a more complete fighter, and while the difference between him and Dordoni is not that great (they are similar fighters), we think that he wouldn’t surpass the former Espada.
2. Dordoni Alessandro Del Socaccio
Dordoni, as a former Espada, is certainly on the level of a Fraccion, but since he has proven himself to be a truly versatile fighter, we assume he was more skilled than Charlotte. The difference is not big, but we think Dordoni can be placed above Charlotte.
1. Luppi Antenor
There is no doubt that Luppi Antenor is the strongest among them, as he was the only Espada in the group, being the Sexta Espada for a while. He far surpasses all the other, and with Mayuri’s modifications, he is even more dangerous.
