Hiyori Sarugaki had two major battles, but she is still alive and well in the series

Since Hiyori’s story isn’t really tied to one specific event, we will just skim through the whole thing and tell you what exactly happened to her over the course of the story, so you can see what happened for yourselves.

Hiyori was the former Lieutenant of the 12th Division before the Shinigami Research and Development Department was founded. She served under Kirio Hikifune and under Kisuke Urahara after he succeeded her. Despite not accepting Urahara as her former Captain’s replacement, Hiyori retained her post and agreed to be his Lieutenant.

As she follows Urahara to a Soul Society prison, the latter explains to her the methods that affect Soul Society’s prisoners. He tells her that anyone who threatens the peace in Soul Society will be sent to prison, even without committing a crime. However, she does not share Urahara’s idea of building a new institute within the 12th Division with the help of Soul Society’s most dangerous criminal, Mayuri Kurosuchi.

Although she is shocked by the thought of someone being imprisoned for almost no reason, Hiyori helps Urahara and participates in the newly established Department.

She was later dispatched by Kisuke to see about the strange disappearances of a group of Shinigami in Rukongai but was attacked by the victims of Sousuke Aizen’s failed Hollow experiments. When she attacked Kaname Tōsen from behind, she soon shared the fate of her peers and was also transformed into a Hollow.

She then grabbed Shinji, who came along shortly thereafter and also began to transform. Just before Aizen was about to kill everyone, Kisuke saved his friends, causing Aizen to flee. Kisuke tried to save the victims of Aizen’s failed experiment using the Hōgyoku, but Aizen blamed Kisuke for his crimes. They were all later found guilty and sentenced.

They are rescued by Yoruichi and are forced to leave Soul Society. For each of them, Kisuke created a Gigai that cannot be traced. Since that day, the victims of Aizen’s experiments (the Visored), Kisuke, Tessai, and Yoruichi, have been living in the real world. Since only Kisuke, Tessai, and Yoruichi helped the Visored back then, Hiyori started hating Shinigami from that day.

After Shinji tried to persuade Ichigo to come to the Visored and Ichigo refused, Hiryori showed up in front of Ichigo and his friends’ school. She first beats up Shinji for still being unable to convince Ichgio to join them and wasting his time. When suddenly Orihime and Chad stood behind the two and wanted to ask them directly what their relationship with Ichigo was, Hiryori didn’t want to tell them.

Since Hiryori dislikes both Shinigami and humans, she is more inclined to attack Chad and Orihime but is held back by Shinji and taken away. Shinji tried to make her understand that they shouldn’t start a fight with his friends if they wanted to get Ichigo on their side.

After Ichigo decided to go to the Visored to control his inner Hollow, Shinji first tested Ichigo, but then Hiyori took over the fight, believing Shinji was holding back too much. Hiyori attacked with all her power and caused Ichigo’s Hollow to appear; it was able to overpower even her, but at that moment, the other Visored intervened and subdued Ichigo. Hiyori still seemed shocked for a while but didn’t want to let it be seen.

After that, Ichigo was supposed to train on Hiyori’s built “Super Hiyori Walker,” but after a while, Ichigo found this just too stupid. Ichigo and Hiyori then got into a fight as Ichigo belittled “her great invention.” Ichigo then managed to persuade Shinji to show him how to control the Hollow faster. After Ichigo actually managed to control his inner Hollow, most of the time, he trained with Hiyori to hold the mask up long enough.

According to Rose, Hiyori was arguably, in part, quite happy, by her standards, that Ichigo was becoming a part of “her family.” Hiryori later brought Orihime to Hachi to fix her hair clip.

After finally penetrating the barrier, the Visored also took part in the battles in Fake Karakura Town. First, everyone demonstrated their Hollow powers by defeating an army of Gillans. Shortly thereafter, the Visored split up to help the Gotei 13’s Captains. Hiryori and Lisa supported Toshiro in his fight against Tier Harribel. However, at first, there was a small argument between Hiyori and Toshiro when Toshiro asked them to take over completely since he wanted to fight Aizen.

When Aizen then slashed Harribel himself, as he had no use for her anymore, he provoked the Visored so many times that Hiyori charged at him. This ill-considered action resulted in Gin practically slicing her in two with his sword, cutting off her abdomen.

Dying, Hiyori apologized to Shinji for what she had done. Shinji calms her down and hopes for Ichigo’s return since Orihime would be able to heal her. Hiyori’s body has been severed in two, and later, Retsu Unohana showed up to help Hachi heal the injured, Hiyori included.

As for her role in the Thousand-Year Blood War, she did not participate in the fights that much, but she did help Urahara fix some of the problems caused by Yhwach and also enabled him to create a portal to transport all of them to Wahrwelt castle. She was among the Visored when they attacked Gerard Valkyrie, and the giant Sternritter knocked her back, but she ultimately survived this battle and returned to the World of the Living, from where she has been in constant contact with Soul Society.
