Blue Beetle: Sharon Stone To Play A Villain In The Upcoming DC Movie
DC is trying to expand its roster of superhero movies and tv shows in the next two years as much as they can. Apart from the upcoming movies Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Aquaman, and the Lost Kingdom, Batgirl, and The Flash, one of the movies that is still pretty far away, but it’s definitely on the way, is Blue Beetle.
The Blue Beetle movie was announced at the DC FanDome event in 2020, and Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña was cast to play the titular role. The movie will be directed by Angel Manuel Soto. The movie was originally set to be an exclusive for HBOMax, like Batgirl, but it was later revealed that the movie will be released in theaters, with the release date set for August 18, 2023.
Not much is known about the movie except that it’s in active development. Maridueña will play Jaime Reyes, a young man who will find a beetle alien which will give him special armor which will eventually turn him into a superhero. According to TheWrap, Oscar nominee and Golden Globe-winning actress Sharon Stone is now set to join the movie. According to the report, she will play Victoria Kord, the main villain of the movie. Victoria Kord is an original character created for the movie.
Sharon Stone is best known for her role in 1992’s Basic Instinct in which she starred alongside Michael Douglas. She also starred in 1995’s Casino, for which she was nominated for the Academy Award. Blue Beetle won’t be her first DC project. She played a villainous role in the Catwoman movie starring Halle Berry. And we will watch her in the upcoming second season of HBOMax’s original series The Flight Attendant starring Kaley Cuoco.
Blue Beetle will be the first superhero movie ever with a Latino titular hero. The character was created in 1939, and DC Comics bought the rights for the character in 1983. DC Comics created Jaime Reyes, who became a third Blue Beetle. The upcoming movie will be the character’s first appearance on the big screen.
Blue Beetle is set to open in theaters on August 18, 2023.
