Boba Fett vs. Cad Bane: Who Would Win?

Share:

Two of the greatest bounty hunters we have ever seen in the Star Wars galaxy are Boba Fett and Cade Bane. Both of them are connected through Boba’s father, Jango, who trained Bane. But while they do share a common connection, they are entirely different from one another in terms of their styles and approach. So, who would win in a battle between Boba Fett and Cad Bane?

Cad Bane would win a battle against Boba Fett. He did die at the hands of his former protégé in The Book of Boba Fett, but Boba was only able to get the upper hand against Bane because he decided to gloat instead of finishing Fett off right away. So, if he didn’t decide to gloat, Bane would have won.

It might be true that Boba Fett is the exact genetic copy of the only bounty hunter that was better than Cad Bane. However, Jango and Boba are entirely different from one another because Boba has a conscience, while his father was a stone-cold killer. On top of that, Cad Bane has significantly improved with experience since his last encounter with Jango Fett.

Shooting Accuracy

Cad Bane’s greatest weapon was always his blaster pistol, which he used effectively in all of his appearances in the Star Wars continuity. With this pistol in hand, he was seemingly unstoppable because he could take out his opponents in a hurry without even missing. He rarely missed, and against some of the best shooters in the galaxy, he almost always triumphed due to his proficiency as a shooter.

Boba Fett couldn’t have laid claim to being one of the best bounty hunters in the galaxy had it not been for his amazing shooting accuracy. He is someone who also rarely misses a shot because he is so proficient with all kinds of blasters, regardless of whether you are talking about a rifle or a pistol. However, his accuracy is improved thanks to the help of the targeting system he has in his helmet.

It’s tough to say who between the two is the more accurate shooter because we have almost never seen them missing. Bane might get the slot nod here because he doesn’t have Fett’s targeting system, but that isn’t a knock on Boba’s ability as an accurate shooter. It’s too close to call in this category.

Speed

Cad Bane was no doubt the fastest gun in the entire Star Wars continuity. We have seen amazing shooters like Han Solo and Jango Fett, but Bane was always faster than any of the other gunmen we have seen in the entire galaxy. He was able to take on both Cobb Vanth and his deputy with relative ease, even though the marshal himself is a fast gun. And that is why Bane always comes out the victor in old western standoffs.

Boba Fett is a great shooter and can take on numerous opponents with relative ease because he does have fast hands as well. Then again, speed isn’t his best attribute because he is more of a frontline gunner that can take on hits and dish them out tenfold. He is still a lot faster than your average grunt but doesn’t have the speed that could match gunmen who excel at having fast hands.

We have seen Cad Bane showing how large the gap between him and Boba Fett was when it comes to speed. The Book of Boba Fett proved that the blue-skinned bounty hunter is by far the faster gun because he had quicker reflexes. This is why the point goes to Cad Bane.

Experience

In terms of his experience, 71 years of existence has allowed Cad Bane to rack up decades worth of experience as a bounty hunter. He has seen it all and came out of all of his jobs (except for the final one) alive. Bane was a bounty hunter long before Boba Fett started out his career as a bounty hunter as well. And the fact that Cad Bane had plenty of run-ins with the Jedi and the clones during the Clone Wars proves just how experienced he is.

If we were to talk about his canon appearances, we didn’t see a lot of Boba Fett. We do know that, during the events of the original trilogy, he was good enough to be called the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy, and that means that his experience spoke for itself. And he might have had a lot of experience in dealing with different types of bounties in between his time in the Clone Wars and the original trilogy.

Even if we were to say that Boba Fett’s experience in the non-canon stories of Star Wars counts, he still is 30 years younger than Cad Bane. Meanwhile, Bane has seen it all because he was a bounty hunter since the days of the Galactic Republic, the Empire, and the New Republic. His experience as a bounty hunter is unmatched.

Equipment

Cad Bane is someone you would call a light packer because he doesn’t have a lot of equipment with him whenever he is out on his missions. You can owe that to the fact that he prefers to stay nimble whenever he is out on a bounty. He mostly relies on his pistol and flamethrower, but he did have more armaments back in the Clone Wars because he specialized in fighting Force users. Then again, since there are hardly any Jedi left since the Empire ruled, Bane probably packed lighter equipment.

Like all Mandalorians, Boba Fett is heavily armed. He has all sorts of different weapons and tools at his disposal, and all of those have helped him earn his place at the top of the underground. He has plenty of guns, a flamethrower, a jetpack, and a large rocket that can take out anything other than a heavily shielded droid. Of course, the fact that he is wearing Beskar armor improves his chances of survival tenfold.

Boba Fett’s equipment is his trump card against Cad Bane, who tends to pack lighter. The fact that he is wearing armor allows him to bridge the gap between him and his old mentor, as Bane could not kill him in one shot.

Close-Combat

Cad Bane has quick enough reflexes and the experience to allow him to fight well whenever he has to combat his opponents in close quarters. Specializing against Force users, he was able to fight on par with Obi-Wan Kenobi in lightsaber combat. But the fact that he doesn’t have any close-combat weapons on him may be his biggest weakness.

In the past, Boba Fett was not a particularly good close-combat fighter. However, training with the Tusken Raiders allowed him to improve in the use of his Tusken spear/staff. He developed skills that Cad Bane wasn’t aware of, and that allowed him to turn the tide of their one-on-one battle in his favor when he pulled out his spear. So, even if he may not have the same kind of training that would allow him to fight on par with Jedi, he still defeated Bane.

The Book of Boba Fett allowed us to see Boba Fett ultimately killing Cad Bane when they engaged in close combat. Bane not having any close-quarter combat weapons proved to be his downfall in that fight, as he didn’t have a chance against his former apprentice when Fett pulled the spear out.

Feats

Cad Bane’s feats are some of the most impressive you could ever see from someone who doesn’t use the Force. You could even say that he has better feats than some Jedi themselves. In Clone Wars, he was a force to be reckoned with because, every time he appeared, he turned the tide of battle even against the Jedi. Of course, thanks to how he specializes against Force users, he took on Jedi Masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Quinlan Vos both at the same time.

Boba Fett’s feats aren’t as explored as Cad Bane’s because there is a huge non-canon hole in his life between the events of Revenge of the Sith and the Empire Strikes Back. Taking on Han Solo and putting a good fight against Luke Skywalker are probably the greatest feats shown on canon. Then again, he did beat Cad Bane on-screen, and that is an impressive feat as well.

Cad Bane held his own against two Jedi Masters. That alone tells you that he has the better on-screen feats.

Boba Fett vs. Cad Bane: Who Would Win?

Yes, we are well aware of the fact that Boba Fett defeated Cad Bane in single combat in The Book of Boba Fett. But let’s not forget that Bane had that victory covered had he not gloated in the last minute (which is why Darth Maul lost to Obi-Wan despite being the superior fighter). If he had just decided to pull the trigger before allowing Fett enough time to pull out his spear, he would have surely won because he does have the advantage in a lot of different areas against his former student. This is why we believe that Cad Bane should have won had he not gloated.
