“They Got that Suit From Temu”: Corenswet’s Superman Suit Faces Online Criticism Once More
James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ is currently filming in Cleveland, which has been transformed into Metropolis for the movie. Along with some intriguing set leaks, we’ve gotten a good look at Superman’s costume, Lois Lane, Mr. Terrific, and other key details.
Several months ago, the suit reveal received mixed reactions, with many fans mocking the baggy, rubbery appearance of the suit and Superman’s casual pose during an apparent alien attack.
Seeing the costume on an actor in broad daylight has significantly improved its perception, in my opinion, making it look much better than in the initial presentation. However, the new photos still generated considerable backlash, with critics once again calling Gunn’s production cheap and comparing the suit to CW productions. I find this puzzling, as Tyler Hoechlin’s suit in ‘Superman & Lois’ is quite decent and shouldn’t be used as an insult.
Corenswet’s Superman costume combines classic and modern elements. While fans anticipated a traditional look akin to Christopher Reeve’s Superman, the suit integrates contemporary features inspired by Jim Lee’s New 52 design, such as a high collar and intricate linework. Alongside these modern touches, it retains traditional elements like Superman’s red trunks, yellow belt, and classic spitcurl, blending a modern, armor-like aesthetic with nods to Superman’s iconic, nostalgic roots.
Several months ago, Gunn mentioned that designs from Alex Ross’s “Kingdom Come” artwork would heavily influence various aspects, including Superman’s suit. What are your thoughts on the suit? Share your opinions in the comments below!
