Curse Of Vanishing: 16 Things You Need To Know About It

Not a very popular enchantment of the Minecraft world, Curse of Vanishing is one of the least used enchantments within the game. However, the enchantment is used with almost every item in Minecraft.

You can enchant any weapon or tool with this enchantment. Although it is not useful in any scenario of the game, as a player you should be well aware of every feature of the game. In this article, I’ll share some interesting and useful tips regarding the Curse of Vanishing.

But before that let us understand What is Curse of Vanishing is in detail.

What Is Curse Of Vanishing In Minecraft?

The curse of Vanishing enchantment disappears after the player dies in the game. When an item is enchanted with Curse of Vanishing, it vanishes instead of dropping after the player is killed in the game.

It only appears in chest loot or fishing drops. It is one of the treasure enchantments and is harder to get directions. If playing the Java edition, the curse of vanishing can be traded with the villagers. Villagers will exchange it for any item they wish to receive.

Curse of Vanishing is one of the Minecraft enchantments that can apply to items to vanish them once the player has died.

The curse of vanishing is compatible with any item in the game. It is compatible with most tools in Minecraft. It can be applied in level 1.

What Does Curse Of Vanishing Do In Minecraft?

Curse Of Vanishing: 16 Things You Need To Know About It

Curse of Vanishing enchantment when applied to any item or tool in Minecraft causes that tool to disappear after the player dies in the game.

If a player doesn’t want to drop his item in the game after he’s been killed, he may choose to enchant his tools with the curse of vanishing enchantment.

Once the item is enchanted with the curse of vanishing, it will completely die out after the player is killed. Such items won’t be recovered after that.

Enchanting any item with the curse of vanishing is not a brilliant move for players, as any hopes of picking up the item after respawning in the world are lost after death.

The curse of vanishing has no real benefit for the players. It exists to create the game a little bit difficult for the opponent players. The curse of vanishing also applies to maps. This makes the Minecraft adventure difficult for players, as the maps are difficult to read after the enchantment applies to them.

Suppose you’re playing in player vs player (PvP) mode and you don’t want to give your armor to the opponent player after you die. So, in case you don’t want him to get your weapon or tool easily, get the curse of vanishing enchantment added to your weapons.

Is The Curse Of Vanishing Good?

It is only good if you want to fool any of your playing mates in the game.

You may apply the curse of vanishing to your weapons and tools, so that if you die before your friends then they cannot pick up your dropped items. The items are immediately lost from the player’s inventory without dropping down.

Otherwise, the curse of vanishing is one such enchantment that you would like to avoid in any case.

When a player dies in Minecraft, it may respawn in the game and might try to collect the item he dropped before they disappear. But if you enchant the items with Curse of vanishing, then the items are lost forever, without any hope of picking them up after respawning to the world.

How To Use Curse Of Vanishing In Minecraft?

Curse of vanishing can be used to trick the friends in the game by applying this enchantment on their weapons. So that after they are dead, they can’t recover their weapons. This would make them work all over again to get all those items.

The case where it may be really useful is in PvP mode. When you’re in player vs player mode, apply Curse of vanishing to opponents.

This will hurt their chances of obtaining the tool if you manage to kill them. Cursing them with vanishing enchantment would ensure that they lose their weapon once and for all after they are dead in the game. There’s no chance of respawning and picking up the weapon.

Maps can also be made harder to read if the curse of vanishing is applied to them. Maps are a difficult thing to follow if you can’t guess what’s in them.

This can confuse the player using them. Mapmakers can use this enchant on maps to make it tougher for players to carry on in their adventure.

Anyways, this enchantment may be useful in a few cases but it is advised to not use it.

How To Get Rid Of Curse Of Vanishing?

The curse of vanishing can be removed by using a grindstone. There is also another method. That we’ll discuss in the next section of this article.

Right now, let’s just focus on how to remove it with a grindstone.

Using Grindstone doesn’t provide the surety of fixing this curse. However, many players claim to use it effectively to remove the curse of vanishing from their items.

However, removing the curse of vanishing enchantment with the help of Grindstone results in removing all the other enchantments that are added to the item.

So, if that is not what you are looking for, maybe you should check the option in the next section.

Curse Of Vanishing: 16 Things You Need To Know About It

Once the curse of vanishing is added to any tool or item in the game there are only limited ways to remove it. The curse of vanishing is harder to get rid of once applied.

There isn’t any guided process in the game to actually remove it. But playing games for so much time has its advantages and I’ve found pretty much a very easy way to remove the curse of vanishing from any item.

Here’s how you can get rid of this enchantment:

1. If you’ve enchanted any item with the curse of vanishing, then find another piece of the same item in the game.  Then get to the crafting table and place the item within it.

2. Place both the cursed and non-cursed items in the crafting table. Once you’ve put them together, merge both of them. This will stop the effect of the curse of vanishing from the item that was added to it.

This way you can remove the curse of vanishing without removing the other enchantments in the game.

Curse of vanishing is one of the least popular enchantments in the game for a reason. You should prefer to avoid it at all costs. Once applied it gets difficult to remove it with any method.

This method explained in this section is relatively known to a lesser group of players. Now that you know, use it effectively while playing.

Does Curse Of Vanishing Work With Keep Inventory?

Curse of Vanishing doesn’t work with Keep Inventory. The setting of the Keep Inventory when set to true, item will not get removed from the inventory. If any item is affected by the Curse of vanishing enchantment, set the keep inventory to true in the settings. This removes the effect of the curse of vanishing and the item remains in the inventory.

Since the item only disappears after leaving the inventory, the keep inventory setting prevents it from leaving the inventory, hence the item doesn’t disappear. Keeping inventory can completely disable the curse of vanishing.

How To Make Curse Of Vanishing Work With Keepinventory?

If you’re playing in the survival mode, the keep inventory rule doesn’t serve its purpose. The curse of vanishing will pretty much serve its original purpose. However, the creative mode game has the option to let the player hold the items in the inventory and doesn’t let them fall off the inventory itself. This prevents the items from leaving the inventory and the curse of vanishing can’t serve its purpose.

To make the curse of vanishing serve its purpose, set the keep inventory option OFF. An item won’t be able to remain in the inventory after the player is killed. Hence, the curse of vanishing can work on items.

Well, as already mentioned in the article’s introduction. The Keep Inventory function does nothing but allows the user to keep the objects present in the quick inventory even after the character has been defeated by the enemies or died for some reason.

In particular, we are talking about Survival mode. In which it is precisely important to try not to die. As in that case, you lose all the hard-obtained / manufactured objects (as I also explained to you in my tutorial on how to survive on Minecraft).

By activating the Keep Inventory functionality. Implemented in the game directly by the developers (therefore, you can use it safely without consequences on your starting). It is, therefore, possible to have much more fun, at least in the conception of a certain type of player.

The curse of vanishing work with a fishing rod. This enchantment causes the fishing rod to vanish (just like other items) once you die. The fishing rod is a very important item in Minecraft. Totem of Undying saves a player from dying. If the player holds the totem of undying in their hand or selects it from the inventory, then the player will be protected if suffered a fatal blow. This would ensure that the player doesn’t die.

Thus, the curse of vanishing won’t work. Curse of vanishing only works if the player is killed. The totem of undying negates the effect of fatal injury to the player and the player isn’t killed even after taking a dangerous shot.

The player should hold the totem of undying in their hand or holding in the mouth to work. It doesn’t work if kept in inventory. Additionally, it works only a single time. Once it is used, it will disappear after use.

Does Curse Of Vanishing Work On Armor?

The curse of vanishing works on every item in Minecraft.

All the armor can be enchanted with the curse of vanishing and they all will get affected by it after the player is killed in the game. The armors are one of the most important items in Minecraft, as they keep the player protected from the damage dealt by the mobs.

The curse of vanishing will not work if the item is put in the chest.

The items are only affected by the curse of vanishing enchantment if they’re dropped to the ground. If you can take them out of the inventory and put them in the chest, they will remain in the world even after you’re gone. Chest keeps the items protected and stored and that prevents the curse of vanishing to vanish the item.

Will An Item With Curse Of Vanishing Enchantment Disappear If You Put It In A Chest?

The item, if kept in the chest, will not disappear from the Minecraft world. Any item can only disappear if it is dropped after the death of a player. But if the item is never dropped, that means the curse of vanishing will not act on the item. Hence, the item remains in the world.

Chest stores the item inside and the item is never dropped out of it. This way the chest nullifies the curse of vanishing from acting on the items.
