‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2’ Reveals Its Full New Crew and a Fall 2026 Release Window That Has Night City Fans Ready

Few anime series have left as deep a mark on the medium as ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.’ The original ten-episode series premiered on Netflix in September 2022 and followed David Martinez, a street kid who tries to survive in Night City’s criminal underworld by becoming a cybernetically-enhanced mercenary outlaw. The first season earned a perfect 100% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 95% audience approval score, making it one of the most celebrated anime adaptations in recent memory. Its success also contributed to a significant reappraisal of the ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ video game, which saw a major jump in sales and active players following the anime’s release.

CD Projekt Red announced a standalone sequel series in July 2025, with most of the original creative team returning for what will be another Netflix exclusive. The sequel is confirmed to be a fresh, standalone story throwing a new cast of characters into what is being described as the darkest corners of Night City. Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor, who served as writer and producer on the first season, made his intentions for the tone of the new series clear early. At the original announcement panel, Sztybor warned audiences not to expect a lighter story, stating that the new season would be “sadder, darker, and more bloody.”

Now the full picture is beginning to come together. Netflix and CD Projekt Red have both confirmed via separate posts that ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2’ will officially air in Fall 2026, with Netflix describing the return using the tagline “New crew. Same chaos.” Alongside that window, the official social media accounts spent several days rolling out individual character reveals, and the complete new crew has now been assembled. The four confirmed characters are Weak Kingsley, a veteran Edgerunner who “lives in the shadow of his former glory,” Roman Carax, a young cinephile obsessed with documenting the lives of others, Talia Yang, a woman with a corpo upbringing who has embraced a life of chrome and violence, and D, a Snake Nation netrunner driven by a hunger for revenge after his clan was wiped out.

Each character brings a distinctly different corner of Night City into focus. Edgerunners writer Bartosz Sztybor described Roman Carax as a “love letter to cinema” and confirmed the character was inspired by Rocket, the protagonist of the 2002 film ‘City of God.’ Talia Yang, the series’ main female lead, grew up inside the comfort of the corporate towers before crossing paths with the Maelstrom gang, ultimately embracing their brutal lifestyle and obsession with heavy chrome.

The series is described by the official synopsis as “a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge,” asking in its world-building the question of what extremes someone must go to in order to make their story matter when the world is blinded by spectacle. Directing duties have been handed to Kai Ikarashi, with Ichigo Kanno handling character design and original art, while Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka return as writers and producers. Kai Ikarashi directed episode six of the original series, which is widely cited by fans as the best single episode of the show, a detail that has only added to the excitement surrounding his expanded role.

‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Season 2 Just Dropped Its First Promo Image and Night City Has Never Looked More Dangerous

The ten-episode standalone story is set within the world of ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ and makes no attempt to revisit the characters from the first season, building an entirely new mythology from the ground up. A new teaser trailer is also set to premiere on the official Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube channel, with the creative team also scheduled to appear at Anime Expo to pull back the curtain further on the long-awaited series. With four compelling new characters whose arcs touch on revenge, legacy, identity, and a dying love of cinema, the stage is set for another emotionally bruising run through Night City. Whether this new crew can carve out a legacy as resonant as David Martinez’s is the question every ‘Edgerunners’ fan will be debating until that Fall premiere drops.
